Job Title: Senior Finance Officer

Duty Station: Dhaka

Reports To: Deputy Country Director

Duration: Fixed-term contract till March 2027 with potential scope of extension

Start Date: March 2025

Job purpose

The Senior Finance Officer will work across multiple projects with responsibility for financial management, internal and donor financial reporting and compliance with BBC Media Action’s multi-country projects. She/he will also be responsible for financial management, reporting and monitoring for BBC Media Action’s sub-grantee and partner organization. S/he will maintain an oversight of financial performance across the portfolio and provide accurate and timely financial information and advice to the project team.

Main Duties & responsibilities

  • Set up and implement financial monitoring and reporting systems across multiple projects and countries.
  • Work with country teams and partners to create accurate financial forecasts. Also lead quarterly forecasting and budget revision exercises for projects.
  • Liaise with organisational finance functions to ensure timely and accurate financial information is available and ensuring that expenditure is incurred and reported in line with donor agreements.
  • Prepare project financial reports for internal and external use, including for donors.
  • Support and advise the project director and senior project managers on financial matters, to ensure effective financial control over the project.
  • Lead the process for budget amendments and extensions, including supporting business development efforts for new projects where capacity allows.
  • Regularly review project’s financial performance, working with project leads and the in-country senior management team to ensure variations are justified and action taken to recover as appropriate.
  • Ensure that financial activities are managed in accordance with BBC Media Action policies and processes; compliant with donor policies and rules; and in local legal compliances.
  • Financial monitoring and financial audit for the sub-grantee / partner organisations.
  • Arrange multi-country project audits in line with donor agreement.
  • Contribute to the wider organisational finance function by providing support and input into organisation-wide finance systems and processes.

Essential skills and experience

  • Strong financial management experience in the international development field.
  • Experience in working with donor funded projects including working knowledge of donor compliance rules and regulations.
  • Experience and proven track record of developing and managing budgets and the commitment to achieving the most efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
  • Proven track record in conducting financial audits for INGOs.
  • Excellent financial management and analysis skills, with the ability to communicate complex data and principles clearly.
  • Experience in operating computer-based financial management systems, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with financial and non-financial managers within BBC Media Action and partner NGOs and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and language skills in Bangla and English.

Desirable skills and experiences

  • Professional accounting qualification.
  • Experience in working with a reputed Chartered Accountant firm

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
