Job purpose

The Training Assistant will work closely with the Media Development Manager and other colleagues from project, research and training teams to design and deliver effective training and outreach materials and activities with diversified target groups. The Training Assistant will assist the Media Development Manager in communication and coordination with government stakeholders, NGOs/INGOs, and media practitioners in outreach and training activities. As part of the outreach activities, the s/he will cover BBC Media Action’s climate resilience and adaptation, media development, governance portfolio. The successful candidate will also need to work with BBC Media Action’s existing partners to ensure that the outputs are effectively disseminated to the communities.

The position is based in Dhaka but requires extensive travel to the project locations across the country as necessary. Normal office hours will generally apply, but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working hours will be required.

Main Duties & responsibilities

  • Assist in a multi-programme setting of outreach activities, ensuring that deliverables are on track, on time and to the required quality standard.
  • Closely working with project management, production, and outreach and training teams to design an outreach plan and implement it effectively.
  • Contribute to the design of engaging and effective training sessions and help write training materials (including training modules, syllabuses, course structures, session plans and handout/toolkit materials).
  • Assist in delivering effective and engaging training and mentoring for participants from partner organisations, media outlets and volunteers at the community and stakeholder levels.
  • Mentor personnel from partner organisations, ensuring that they receive the support they need as they roll out community engagement and accountability activities at the community level.
  • Help to prepare community-facing communication materials and products.
  • Collect and collate shared learnings and good practices from organisations and communities using community engagement content.
  • Work closely with teams across BBC Media Action Bangladesh and consortium partners to ensure that communication with partners is planned, coordinated and effective.
  • Provide timely and accurate forecasting and reporting information for outreach activities and deliverables to the Media Development Manager
  • Coordinate with admin, finance, procurement and travel issues and provide assistance to respective focal points.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.

Experience in supporting and delivering high-quality training and mentoring programmes within development setting.

Understanding and skills at training methods, including group-work facilitation and participatory approaches.

Experience of community level outreach activities around community and stakeholder engagement.

Experience in designing and implementing capacity building courses and developing modules.

Experience in documentation and report writing with high standard.

Editorial awareness and strong understanding of rights and gender-related needs and concerns within a development context,

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with good spoken and written Bangla and English language skills.

Knowledge and interest in the principles of learning and understanding the digital transformation strategy.

IT literate and experience working with, learning, and developing systems, with good knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
