Job purpose:

Reporting to the Creative Manager, the Digital Content Producer will assist in devising and developing a wide range of programmes in different formats for digital platforms and take responsibility for producing allocated packages and programmes within the series, delivering high-quality output. S/he will be responsible for preparing detailed work plans with feasible timelines for every stage of the production process, including research and pre-production, audio/visual recording, and post-production works. S/he will work within the production team to support the delivery of digital outputs on time, within budget, and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Creative Manager and other creative staff, provide input and ideas to shape the format and structure of audio-visual programmes for digital platforms.
  • Undertake general research for programmes and interview experts and contributors to produce the outputs.
  • Develop/write scripts and narrations for producing the digital content.
  • Assist with pre-production, filming/recording and post-production for allocated packages or episodes, always working closely with episode directors/producers.
  • Work within the production workflow, ensuring that production tasks are completed on time and with the appropriate level of quality.
  • Liaise regularly with the project team and partners to ensure consistency of message and content across the project.
  • Professionally operate a range of audio-visual equipment to the highest BBC standards.
  • Ensure that BBC editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual, and copyright requirements are met through proper sign-off and post-production compliance processes, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.
  • To source locations, contributors, and on-screen and production talent; and to manage freelance and casual staff on location.
  • Assist with and support producer/s and visual editors during editing, transcription, and translation 
  • Provide a courteous and knowledgeable first point of contact for a range of people within and outside of the BBC.
  • Follow best practices and abide by BBC Safeguarding Policy, BBC Editorial, Trust and Legal guidelines.
  • Take responsibility for series-wide programme elements, in line with the post-holder’s skills and experience in specific production areas (e.g., music, graphics, wardrobe, etc.)
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post as allocated by the line manager.

In general, regular office hours will apply, but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working hours will be necessary.

Experience in visual production, including experience in producing different formats of factual programmes for digital platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, etc.

Well-developed creative and technical production skills.

Strong understanding of gender-related needs and concerns within the communities affected by climate change and natural disasters.

Ability to research, write, edit, or adapt programme material for young and vulnerable communities affected by climate change and natural disasters.

Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.

Proven ability to find contributors, interviewees, and experts as well as other sources of material.

Editorial awareness and ability to apply BBC editorial policy

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
