Job Title : Assistant IT Officer

Duration : Till 30 June 2025 (with possibility of extension)

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues; and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on key themes: governance and rights, media development, humanitarian, health, climate adaptation and resilience.

Overall purpose:

Reporting to the Administration Officer, the Assistant IT Officer will be accountable to assist in the information technology management of the office.

Duties:

  • Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows servers, Windows Patch management and issues related to Active Directory and
  • Manage and maintain services related to Office 365 with the support of the head office IT team.
  • Regular IT trouble shooting, setting up new accounts, email set up, laptop configuration and software installation, health checking of IT equipment.
  • Proactively monitor BBC Media Action IT systems and performance
  • Maintain regular channel of communication with head office IT team for resolving IT related trouble shooting and for updating any IT issues. 
  • Provide timely reports of network performance and failures. Prepare monthly reports on key metrics related to application and bandwidth usage and monitoring internet and network traffic.
  • Take responsibility for digital archiving of products & outputs.
  • Maintain IT inventory and support procurement team with equipment purchase.
  • Vendor management to ensure unerupted support for IT equipment and internet.

Skills, knowledge and experience requirement for the position:

Essential/Desirable
BSc in computer science / information systems or related field

Vendor Certification: MCSE and/or CCNA

Significant practical job experience of IT related fields in a reputed organization
E
Experience on Microsoft 365
Demonstrable ability to configure Microsoft Outlook and to troubleshoot email related issues.

Good working knowledge of LAN hardware (including router, switch, cabling, access point, etc) and strong knowledge of TCP/IP.

Good knowledge of Azure, HyperV and practical experience of SCCM

Knowledge of database and server management, including good working knowledge of Windows server environment.

Demonstrable ability to install and troubleshoot computer hardware, network printers, scanners, photocopiers and projectors.

Experience of implementing backup software such as Backup Exec, ARC serve, EMC and MS Windows Backup.

Ready to travel anywhere in Bangladesh.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to assist non-technical staff to understand technical issues.

Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise across multiple and conflicting deadlines.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
