Job Title: Digital Coordinator

Context

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health, and resilience.

Overall purpose:

The Digital Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the creative team in managing one or more social media accounts, digital platforms and content-sharing platforms. The role helps ensure each account delivers on the agreed social media strategy, maximises engaged reach with the account's target audiences, delivers content of the highest creative quality, and drives traffic around the BBC Media Action portfolio. The successful candidate will be facilitating capacity-building initiatives on safely navigating online spaces, planning creative content and generating ideas to keep the accounts active and engaging with the audience and ensure proper supervision following the highest standard following BBC Media Action’s Social Media Guidelines.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Provide planning and idea generation for social media content and campaigns with the guidance of the Social Media Manager and/or the creative team.
  • Support with planning, marketing and commissioning to turn content and programme briefs into digital/social activation.
  • Develop creative approaches to curating social media content, utilising existing and new tools.
  • Work closely with digital production teams to ensure optimised assets are produced for the social accounts.
  • Optimise digital assets for social, including editing aspect ratio and dimensions, adding captions, transitions, motion graphics, etc.
  • Facilitate Digital Media Literacy training with community youth
  • Produce copy that is optimised for social platforms and formats, in line with the account’s approved style guide and tone of voice.
  • Ensure editorial content supports the account's brand values and is consistent with the agreed editorial style and tone.
  • Engage influencers and communities within the Bangladesh social media ecosystem around BBC Media Action's social media content.
  • Manage the budgets for all social media paid promotion-related activities.
  • Work with moderation services, editorial policy and other support teams to develop appropriate responses to editorially sensitive comments.
  • Work closely with media engagement teams to ensure best practices in terms of reaching audiences and identifying new opportunities on social platforms.
  • Manage & maintain BBC Media Action Bangladesh’s all-digital applications, resources and assets.
  • Monitor the performance of the social media channels on a day-to-day basis and report to the Line Manager and other key stakeholders as required.
  • Remain current in industry trends, and digital developments and share new thinking.

This position is based in Dhaka with a rigorous travel to Cox’s Bazar and other parts of the country. Normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Skills, knowledge and experience requirements:

Excellent and demonstrable knowledge of digital media industries. E
Prior experience in developing digital applications and understanding the step-by-step process of managing each component.  E
Experience in the creation, delivery and management of social media assets within the development and social behaviour change communication or an industry with a similar brand facing the business. E
Experience assisting and managing all aspects of a social media account. E
Experience in managing large-scale social media campaigns D
Good Adobe CS video/image editing skills; attention to detail with good editorial judgement, accuracy and sensitivity. D
Self-shooting and experience presenting D
Good research skills, able to identify opportunities and follow through. E
Good written and verbal communication in both Bangla and English. E
A team player, able to collaborate across organisational boundaries E

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
