Job Title : Junior Assistant Producer (Digital)

Duration : Initially fixed term to 30 June 2023, with strong potential for extension

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health, and resilience.

In Cox’s Bazar, we are currently focusing on strengthening the capacity of humanitarian actors in the Rohingya response aiming to improve their community engagement skills through training and mentoring programmes and producing multi-media and social media content to support and improve community engagement and accountability across the response.

Overall purpose:

Reporting to the Producer, Junior Assistant Producer (Digital) will assist in devising and producing digital outputs, as well as a wide range of programmes in different formats. S/ he will be responsible for artist and equipment management, doing administrative works and ensuring production safety as required.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • To assist with pre-production, filming/recording, and post-production for allocated audio-visual pieces, always working closely with producer/director/ Assistant Producers
  • To source locations, contributors, and on-screen and production talent; and to manage freelance and casual staff on location.
  • To work with, coordinate and support the production management team.
  • To develop detailed shooting schedules, prepare and coordinate artists' schedules, and ensure props and wardrobe arrangement.
  • To ensure all the footage and audio clips are stored and documented after the filming and delivered to visual editors/ coordination team with a proper log sheet.
  • To assist in ensuring production safety, including involvement in preparing risk assessments and ensuring all crew upholds safety measures.
  • To work within the production team and alongside administration, finance, and procurement staff to ensure all purchasing, hiring, and contracting is completed in line with BBC Media Action policies and procedures if required.
  • To carry out any other production-related tasks as assigned by the line manager/producer/director.

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

The post is based in Cox’s Bazar, but s/he needs to travel to production locations across the country, as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
