Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and community engagement and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health, and resilience.

In Cox’s Bazar, we are currently focusing on strengthening the capacity of humanitarian actors in the Rohingya response to improve their community engagement skills through training and mentoring programmes and producing multi-media and social media content to support and improve community engagement and accountability across the response.

Overall purpose:

Reporting to the Producer, Assistant Producer (Digital) will mostly produce digital outputs as well as develop a wide range of programmes in different formats. S/he will take responsibility for producing allocated packages and programmes within the series, delivering high-quality outputs. S/he will be responsible for preparing detailed work plans with feasible timelines for every stage of the production process, including research and pre-production, audio/visual recording, and post-production works. S/he will work within the production team to support the delivery of outputs on time, to budget, and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • To produce digital contents for social media
  • In consultation with the producer and team, provide input and ideas to shape the format and structure of audio/ audio-visual programmes for social media and other formats.
  • Undertaking general research for programmes.
  • To develop/write scripts and narrations.
  • To take responsibility for pre-production, filming/recording and post-production for allocated packages or episodes, always working closely with episode directors/producers.
  • Work within the production workflow, ensuring that production tasks take place on time and to the appropriate level of quality.
  • Liaise regularly with the project team and partners to ensure consistency of message and content across the project.
  • Professionally operate a range of audio-visual equipment to the highest BBC standards.
  • To manage freelance and casual staff on location.
  • To take responsibility for series-wide programme elements, aligning with post-holder’s skills and experience in specific production areas (e.g., music, graphics, wardrobe, etc.)
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post as allocated by the line manager.

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

The post is based in Cox’s Bazar, but s/he needs to travel to production locations across the country, as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
