Duration : Fixed term contract till 31st March 2022, subject to funding, with strong possibility for extension

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media, and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health, and resilience.

Overall purpose:

To edit elements of multimedia output, including ingesting and assemble editing audio-video material, working with the factual/ drama production teams to ensure that output is delivered on time and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • Provide creative and innovative storytelling ideas and formats based on project needs
  • Study scripts and production briefs and become familiar with production concepts and requirements.
  • Digitise rushes and log shots according to BBC standards.
  • Working with producer/directors, assemble edit allocated episodes (or parts of episodes)
  • Edit short audio/video packages for on-line or promotional use
  • Travel to filming locations and ingest and edit on location when necessary.
  • Carry out post-production equipment maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
  • Provide input into colour grading, graphics, and post-production sound, as commensurate with the postholder’s skills and experience.
  • Ensure that BBC editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual, and copyright requirements are met, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

Experience of post-production role in humanitarian communication / community engagement activities

Well-developed technical post-production skills, including good working knowledge in Adobe editing suits and Final Cut Pro

Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at all levels

A meticulous, logical approach towards work with the ability to prioritise across multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail

Ability to work in a multicultural environment

Experience working in a development or related setting.

Specialist skills and experience in one or more of graphics, colour grading and/or post-production sound

The post is based in Cox’s Bazar, but s/he has to travel to production locations across the country, as necessary.  In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.
 
The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
