Job Title : Project Officer

Reports To : Project Manager
Duration : Fixed term till August 2021, subject to funding, with strong possibility for extension

Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues; and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and rights, health and resilience.

Overall purpose:

The Project Officer will work within multiple BBC Media Action projects, providing day-to-day support to the Project Manager and other members of the project team and ensuring smooth practical operation of training, partnership and other project activities. He/she will also contribute to general administrative and operational support needs within the BBC Media Action Bangladesh office.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate and manage the day to day running of the project, assisting the Project Manager to ensure that all aspects are completed on time and within the agreed budget.
  • Assist the Project Manager to manage the project budget, exercising a degree of judgment to ensure that financial targets are met.
  • Support to identify risks and issues that threaten the successful delivery of the projects and work with the Project Manager to propose solutions.
  • Assist in writing monthly, quarterly or annual progress reports of the project and other documents needed to ensure the reporting and development of the project, including collating and compiling inputs from other consortium partners.
  • Work closely with project personnel, consultants, consortium partners and delivery partners for timely delivery.
  • Lead the administrative and practical organisation for all project events, internal and external.
  • Work with the BBC Media Action administration, finance and HR teams to ensure that the project follows all procurement, contracting, travel, editorial and other policies and processes.
  • Ensure that paper and electronic filing systems related to the project are appropriate, accurate and regularly updated.
  • Co-ordinate and drive editorial and administrative sign-off processes for project deliverables.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Project Manager.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with the role as assigned by the line manager

Experience of a range of administrative work, with a demonstrable ability to co-ordinate and drive administrative processes in a project setting as well as ability to manage / organise events

Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain effective working relationships at a range of levels

Good organisational and time management skills, with the proven ability to prioritise, work independently and maintain attention to detail

Good knowledge of project management processes & techniques.

Good written communication skills, in English and Bangla

Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office

Understanding of administrative and financial compliance in a project setting

Understanding of basic safeguarding principles, with the ability and willingness to adhere to BBC Media Action safeguarding policies and procedures

Experience of working in a news or current affairs environment

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
