Context:
BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health and resilience.
We’re now looking for talented, skilled and experienced senior copy editor to help develop concepts, generate ideas, drafting, preparing and editing production scripts, training modules, translation and other outputs for various projects and office works. The ideal candidate will have experience of writing-translating-editing skills in multi-platforms (audio, social media, multimedia etc.) for production, training and research reports.
Overall purpose:
To work within the production team to ensure that assigned works are delivered on time and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.
Main Duties & responsibilities:
- Contribute to develop concepts and generate ideas for multi-platform production works.
- Support the production team to draft, prepare and edit scripts, as well help the team during filming/recording and post-production works.
- Contribute to prepare concept notes, briefs, proposals, guidelines, translate, edit and compile various policy papers.
- Support to generate innovative ideas, write headlines, captions, brief stories, cover page, notes, posts and edit comments for social media.
- Contribute to edit and compile write-ups and copies of training modules and research papers.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for creative ideas and outputs in multi-platform production works.
- Contribute to develop theory of change and communication framework for different projects and production works.
- Write designated fiction and factual scripts in line with the agreed formats, characters, storyline, messaging, and other briefs provided by production team.
- Translate scripts, transcript and prepare subtitles as per necessity for various outputs.
- Work closely with the senior producer and other designated team members to ensure smooth delivery of the product.
- Engage in necessary discussions with the production/project team to understand the project, programmes and deliverables.
- Work flexibly and travel across the country to deliver assigned duties.
- To undertake any other duties requested by the line manager.

In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.
The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
