Context:

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health and resilience.

We’re now looking for talented and skillful junior assistant producer to help produce multimedia outputs for our Rohingya emergency projects. Working within a small team, the junior assistant producer will help create audio and video multimedia content (either factual or drama) aimed at both Rohingya people and the host community. All the contents will be made in Chittagonian dialect or Rohingya language.

Overall purpose:

Reporting to the Production Coordinator, the Junior Assistant Producer will provide administrative, coordination and logistical support for the production team. S/he will work in every stage of the production process including research and pre-production, location or studio filming and post-production. S/he will carry out necessary / assigned tasks to ensure that the series is delivered on time, to budget and in accordance with BBC Media Action’s high creative standards and editorial requirements.

Main Duties & responsibilities:

  • To assist with pre-production, filming/recording and post-production for allocated packages or episodes, working closely always with episode directors / producers
  • To source locations, contributors, and on-screen and production talent; and to manage freelance and casual staff on location
  • To work with and support production assistants and researchers
  • To develop/write shooting scripts and narrations
  • To assist with and support producer/s and visual editors during editing, transcription, and translation
  • To assist in ensuring production safety, including involvement in preparation of risk assessments, and ensuring safety measures are upheld by all crew.
  • To assist in creating and managing filming and edit schedules in close liaison with other members of the multimedia production team.
  • To work within the production team and alongside administration, finance, and procurement staff to ensure all purchasing, hiring, and contracting is completed in line with BBC Media Action policies and procedures.
  • To provide a courteous and knowledgeable first point of contact for a range of people within and outside of the BBC.
  • To take responsibility for series-wide programme elements, in line with post-holder’s skills and experience in specific production areas (e.g. music, graphics, wardrobe, etc.)
  • To carry out any other production-related tasks as assigned by the line manager/producer/director 
  • Work flexibly across BBC Media Action's offices in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar, as necessary.
  • To undertake any other duties requested by the line manager.

Skills, knowledge, and experience requirements:

An interest in audio-visual production

knowledge of established audio-visual production techniques.

Good spoken and written Bangla language skills.

Well-developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office.

Experience in a junior production role within television, preferably within a factual genre.

Strong understanding of gender-related needs and concerns within humanitarian and displacement contexts.

Experience of working in a development or related setting, with an understanding of the needs of socially excluded/unprivileged groups.

Functional understanding of safeguarding principles and commitment to follow BBC Media Action’s Code of Conduct and safeguarding policy

The position is based in Cox’s Bazar with travel to Rohingya camps and filming locations across Cox’s Bazar, as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary.

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
