Vacancy Announcement Area Officer Vacancy: 02 Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) is a non-governmental, non-profit development organization. Founded in 1997 by a group of development practitioners, researchers, and social workers, BARCIK has been dedicated to advancing environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, resilience, justice, and food security since its inception. BARCIK is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Area Officer for its project titled ‘Environmental Human Rights for a Just Transition: Strengthened Local CSOs Transforming Climate Hotspots into Resilient Communities (ENGAGE). This project will be implemented in the Shyamnagar and Assasuni upazilas of Satkhira district and Koyra and Paikgacha upazilas of Khulna district. The project is financial supported by the European Union (EU) and led by NETZ Bangladesh. Position will be available from 1 April 2025 to 31 December 2028. Job Nature: Full-time (up to project period based on performance) Academic/ Educational qualification: Postgraduate in Geography, Environmental Science, and Development Studies or in any subject of Social Science disciplines. Experience and Job responsibility: At least 5 years working experiences with proven skill and competencies in human rights and climate change. Responsible for coordination of all program activities in a upazila; coordination and establishment of all civil society organizations (CSOs); regular visits to CSOs and secondary schools; coordination of training activities for the target group; coordination of dialogue meetings between civil society and government agencies; coordination of climate-resilient innovative initiatives, communication with government agencies and service providers; management and monitoring of program staff and their activities; ensuring safeguards at meetings. Priorities will be given to suitable candidates those who are born and grown up in coastal region and experiences working in EU funded projects. Other job requirements: Proven experiences on program planning, implementation, budgeting, financial management, staff management, report writing and monitoring & evaluation. Clear conception/ understanding on climate change resilience and justice, gender and right based project dynamics. The applicant should have computer skill on MS word, excel, power point and others. Experiences on network/linkage/collaboration with union/upazila/district level administration and national level network and like-minded organizations. Candidates must have valid Motor bike driving license. Willing to stay at upazila level with frequent visit to the remote areas. Candidate should have a good knowledge on safe guarding (Child Protection, Gender & Anti sexual harassment).
