Position: Process Evaluation Officer (Female)

BADAS Centre for Health Research and Implementation (BADAS-CHRI) is a collaborative research centre between the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS), University College London Institute for Global Health (UCL-IGH), UK, and Department of Health Sciences, University of York, UK. Operating since 2002, BADAS-CHRI addresses critical health issues in maternal and child health, diabetes, hypertension, depression, and injuries through research and implementation projects. This position will be based at CHRI’s District Office in Faridpur city.

This project focuses on reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in South Asia by addressing socio-environmental risk factors through a participatory, community-led approach. Using the proven Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method, it aims to promote physical activity, particularly among older women, and improve health outcomes for diverse populations across age, gender, and socio-economic groups. The study will be conducted in Faridpur, Bangladesh, and Kathmandu, Nepal, using a mixed-methods approach to adapt and evaluate PLA interventions. By engaging local stakeholders and civil society, the project ensures sustainable, evidence-based strategies for NCD prevention and control. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled qualitative researcher to apply and develop their skills with an international research team to advance health equity and resilience in urban South Asia. The Process Evaluation Officer shall be responsible for the following roles:

General responsibilities 
  • Recruit research participants following informed consent procedures.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders, such as health workers and community leaders, to recruit co-production group members.
  • Explore existing local networks and groups (e.g., youth clubs, sports clubs, exercise clubs, religious groups, finance groups).
  • Map the community with gatekeeper representatives and describe the areas.
  • Conduct community walkthroughs to identify and engage local groups.
  • Collect qualitative data through unstructured observations, interviews, and focus group discussions with community stakeholders, health providers, policymakers.
  • Conduct case studies with families on a regular basis and perform participant observation in exercise classes.
  • Transcribe (in Bangla) and translate (to English) qualitative data using Microsoft Word.
  • Disseminate and discuss research findings with community and policy stakeholders.
  • Maintain a field diary to plan and document field activities. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager or office from time to time.
Essential Qualifications Desirable Qualifications
Qualifications, experience and knowledge
Masters in Anthropology/Sociology or any relevant field  
At least 4 years of experience in public health research  
Experience in collecting qualitative data through unstructured observations, interviews, and focus group discussions Experience in community mapping and describing the community
  Experience in developing qualitative tools
Experience in transcribing qualitative data  
Experience in translating qualitative data Experience in analysing qualitative data
Experience of writing reports Published writer
Experience of ethical and consent procedures  
Experience of using participatory methods in research Experience of using creative or arts-based approaches in research or development
Basic knowledge about major NCDs, their risk factors and the socio-cultural factors affecting NCD prevention and management. Lived experience and/or research experience about main NCDs, their risk factors and the socio-cultural factors affecting NCD prevention and management.
Skills
Computer literacy - comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel Experience of using Microsoft 365
  Experience of using qualitative analysis software
  Fluency in written and spoken English
Aptitude
Ability to work independently and collaboratively  
Willing to travel to diverse communities including slum/non-slum areas, build and maintain good relationships  
Ability to work across academic and non-academic disciplines and collaborate and communicate effectively  
Demonstrated willingness to learn  

Job Location: CHRI District Office in Faridpur city, with frequent field visits to intervention areas within the municipality.

Job Nature: Full-time.

Contract Type and Duration
  • The appointments are on a contractual basis.
  • The contract duration shall align with the project tenure (30 months), with further renewal or termination strictly based on the performance and continuation of the project.
Salary and Benefits
  • Consolidated Tk. 59,000 per month.
  • Festival bonus and other benefits as per organization rules.
