Introduction:
Awaj Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting workers' rights and well-being in the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh. Founded in 2003, we aim to ensure decent work, gender equity, and dignified lives for all workers. It upholds the principle that every individual is entitled to work in a professional environment free from harm, harassment, sexual abuse, bullying, humiliation, exploitation, or any form of unlawful discrimination. With 22 offices and community centers, we serve over 740,000 workers across 12 major industrial clusters in the Dhaka and Chittagong Divisions.
Position Overview
The Finance Officer (FO) plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the organization's financial operations. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and receiving guidance from the Finance & Admin Manager and Project Coordinator, the FO ensures compliance with internal policies, donor requirements, and applicable laws, supporting the organization's financial accountability and transparency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the financial operations of the organization and ensure timely and accurate financial reports, including cash management, payroll, and financial disbursements.
- Manage financial control, prepare and analyze budgets, and make recommendations to the organization on budget expenditures.
- Ensure accuracy of all data required for processing financial transactions to assigned accounts using Tally accounting software.
- Ensure that all financial reporting is completed on time and submitted to donors and NGOAB.
- Supervise the financial audits of the organization’s projects.
- Arrange for payment of taxes withheld from employees and vendors in compliance with Bangladesh government regulations.
- Ensure timely banking transactions with minimal risk and in line with organizational policies.
- Obtain approvals from the Executive Director and donors on all procurements and purchases for projects and the organization.
- Oversee day-to-day financial transactions, including invoicing, payments, advances, and other related transactions, ensuring proper VAT and tax deductions at the source.
- Provide orientation and training to staff on cost-effective financial management.
- Maintain hard & soft copies of all financial records for projects and the organization.
- Ensure the maintenance of fixed assets and regularly update the fixed asset list.
- Update monthly bank statements and prepare bank reconciliations.
- Possess knowledge of NGOAB activities such as FD-6, FD-2, FC-1, FD-4, and ToR preparation.
- Manage petty cash in accordance with organizational policies and practices.
- Perform any other accounting duties that may arise from time to time.
Qualifications & Requirements
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced finance officer to manage our financial planning and analysis processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the organization's financial stability through analysis, forecasting, and reporting. The finance officer will report to the Executive Director and work closely Finance & Admin Manager and Project Coordinator to ensure the organization’s financial success.
Job related experience and knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Management, or a related field from a reputable institution (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles within an NGO environment or the development sector.
- Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
- Experience working with an audit firm is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in using financial software, particularly Tally accounting software.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
- Sharp time management and leadership abilities, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
