Sr. Fiber Optic Splicing & Network Technician

Responsibility:

Cable Splicers connect cable together, often maintain and installing cables for ISP (Internet Service Provider) companies. This work is usually done on call and in any type of weather. The cables that these professionals work with may be high in the air, underground. If the cables are high up, cable splicer generally need to utilize elevated work platforms or cherry pickers. They may also climb utility poles to reach the specific area. If underground, the cable splicer may need to descend into manhole and swears to reach the needed area. If the cables are under water, it is possible that they will work onboard a marine craft. After installing the cables, cable splicer must test them to ensure functionality and ensure the safety of the cable. The cable must be moisture and fireproof. Aside from installation, cable splicers may also check faulty wiring and maintain installed cables.

Educational Requirement:

  • SSC/HSC
  • Education will be relaxed for experienced candidates.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years’ experience in similar role

Additional Requirements:

  • Age N/A
  • 2+ years of outside plant fiber splicing and customer premise equipment installation
  • Experience with following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters , traffic identifiers, digital multi meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners , ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
  • Familiar with standards and best practices for premise entry and electronic equipment installation.
  • Understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of the fiber optic networks
  • Working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations
  • Possess a good understanding of fiber documentation and have the ability to assist in lying out new fiber circuits
  • Ability to differentiate color codes as well as read and understand manufacturers manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components
  • Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment’s
  • Proficient in the operation of all related tools and equipment
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule that includes extended hours, travel regular overnight and out of town stay, occasional night shifts and after hour calls for service and repair
  • Ability to communicate efficiently (verbal and written) and maintain a level customer service to represent pillar innovation in professional, competent and courteous manner
  • Must dependable, trustworthy, and possess a positive and productive attitude
  • Must be able to work well with co-worker and customers.
