Position : Deputy Director (Communication and Advocacy)
Repot to : Executive Director
Project : Strengthening Democracy by Promoting Human Rights Culture in Bangladesh

Job Objective:
Approachable and results driven communication, Advocacy and Fundraising on behalf of ASK for sustainable continuous interventions in line with organizational strategic goal and objectives.

Relations & Co-ordination

Internal:

  • Executive Director
  • Directors, Department Heads, Outcome Heads

External:

  • Local and global partners and stakeholders.
  • Respective members of networks, consortium and other partners updated with fresh information.

Major Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain and oversee all the necessary and relevant external communications.
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive and coherent communication strategy for the organization which include internal, external and development partners.
  • To strategically manage all fundraising activities to support the objectives of ASK through the development of project proposals that reflect ASK's focus strategic and overall mission.
  • Establish and facilitate the effective and sustainable integration of fundraising into the relevant departments within the Programme
  • Supervision and monitoring of the staff of Investigation, Documentations, Publications and MIA units and implementation of activities.
  • Issuing press statement/press release in the issues of human rights violation to represent ASK’s stance in media.
  • Regular field visit for learning and program improvement.
  • Undertaking work plan for HRDF in local level, support to develop their capacity & linkages to carry out HR protection and promotion work.
  • Maintaining liaison with different national and international organizations and support in developing the work strategy for combined activities with partners.
  • Monitoring ASK website, e-bulletin and other related activities.
  • Liaison and represent ASK through participating in different meetings, seminars and workshop to promote ASK’s mission, vision and values.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Through donor scoping, and with support to other ASK staff, identify potential funding opportunities and manage the application process in coordination with different objective focal persons.
  • Maintain communication and build networks with potential, current donor organizations and Government/Non government offices.
  • Work closely with all Teams and Departments especially with the Programme team in order to develop relevant and quality proposals and products.
  • Establish and facilitate sustaining of linkages with media, bilateral and multilateral agencies, INGOs NGOs, networks and movements.
  • Oversee articles, speeches and develop position papers for senior management
  • Develop or advise on the content for information brochures; reviews and edits drafts of important correspondence, reports, and brochures for mass distribution.
  • Advocate mainstreaming of ASK's core values and cross cutting issues.

Job Competencies:

  • University degree (Master’s /higher degree) in Social science/ communication/ development field.
  • A minimum of 7 - 10 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of advocacy, fundraising and communications.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (Bangla & English).
  •  Good attention to detail and accuracy essential.
  • Well developed people and institutional service skills.
  • Facilitating Public dialogue.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of fund-raising techniques including, but not limited to: proposal writing; public relations; prospect research; donor relations and stewardship; volunteer; and correspondence management.
  • Skill in writing and editing news and feature articles. Ability to write/edit in a variety of writing styles, ability to draft materials on a wide range of topics. Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong commitment and profound evidence based understanding of equality and rights perspectives.
  •  Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication, negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Excellent language skills in English and Bangla including the ability to compose, edit, analyses and report using complex information
  • Excellent computer skills including navigating email, internet and MS WORD and PowerPoint, social media, tweeter, etc.
  • Explore website, individuals or others to find out info recalls for proposals, trends of funding search.
  • Lead proposal writing with the help of relevant staff of ASK.
  • Organize events and dialogue in order to attract funding.
  • Able to priorities workload, keep line manager informed on progress against objectives and highlighting any red flag issues in a timely manner.
