B. ABOUT ANANDO
ANANDO is a national, non-government, non-profit, non-political and voluntary development organization that came into existence as “ANANDO” in 1996 and afterwards registered with the Directorate of Social Services and NGO Affairs Bureau in August 1997. The goal of ANANDO is the reduction of poverty by addressing sustainable livelihood development, women empowerment, climate change, water and sanitation, skill development promotion of enterprise, and peacebuilding. The purpose of ANANDO is to serve the extremely vulnerable communities and people at risk by reducing their vulnerability and suffering and promoting their sustainable socioeconomic development.
ANANDO’s programs are being implemented in 8 districts (Tangail, Cox’s Bazer, Khagrachari, Gazipur, Jamalpur, Rangamati, Satkhira, and Chittagong) through 21 Projects/Branch Offices of which 16 offices are own establishment. Its current development partners include USAID, Welthungerhilfe – BMZ, GFFO, Germany, Licht Brucke – BMZ, Germany, GIZ, Department of Women Affairs (GOB), Bureau of Non-Formal Education ( GOB), Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP), and PKSF.
C. ABOUT THE PROJECT
This donor funded project implemented by ANANDO aims to enhance peaceful coexistence and socio-economic resilience among Rohingya refugees and host communities in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. Running from November 2025 to May 2029, the project targets 1,500 households (7,500 individuals) through integrated interventions in climate-resilient agriculture, vocational skills development, nutrition, gender equality, and peacebuilding. Key objectives include increasing livelihood opportunities, reducing gender-based violence and social conflicts, and promoting sustainable social cohesion through climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive livelihood approaches.
D. ROLE PURPOSE
The Agriculture and Climate Change Officer will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and monitoring of all climate-smart agriculture, homestead gardening, livestock, and agro-based livelihood activities under the project. S/he will ensure the integration of climate adaptation, environmental sustainability, and nutrition-sensitive approaches into all agricultural interventions, directly contributing to improved food security, income diversification, and resilience of target households in both Rohingya and host communities.
E. KEY RESPOSIBILITYS:
1. Climate-Smart Agriculture & Livelihood Program Design & Implementation
- Develop and implement climate-smart agriculture projects aimed at improving resilience to climate change among refugee and host community households.
- Design and pilot innovative techniques such as drought-resistant crops, water-saving irrigation, integrated pest management (IPM), vertical gardening, rooftop gardening, and space-fit farming.
- Prepare seasonal crop calendars, farming plans, and climate-resilient agricultural guidelines tailored to the local context of Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
2. Capacity Building & Training
- Conduct training sessions for beneficiaries on climate-resilient agriculture, homestead gardening, vegetable seed production, food processing, livestock rearing, poultry management, and nutrition-sensitive food production.
- Develop training modules, flipcharts, demonstration plots, and farmer field schools to facilitate hands-on learning.
- Build the capacity of Climate Smart Women Groups (CSWGs) and project staff in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
3. Technical Support & Input Management
- Provide ongoing technical guidance to farmers and project field staff on crop management, soil health, composting, water management, and pest control.
- Oversee the distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, saplings, tools, compost, and irrigation equipment to 1,500 beneficiary households.
- Promote the use of saline- and drought-tolerant varieties and sustainable farming practices to enhance yield and nutritional diversity.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Coordinate with teams to implement projects, monitor progress, and document lessons learned for future scalability.
- Conduct field visits regularly to assess crop performance, adoption of technologies, and challenges faced by farmers.
- Collect and analyze data related to agricultural productivity, income changes, and climate resilience for reporting and adaptive management.
5. Coordination & Networking
- Liaise with local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Livestock Department, NGOs, and private sector actors to align project activities with government schemes and market systems.
- Establish and strengthen linkages between farmers, input suppliers, local markets, and value chain actors to enhance market access and profitability.
- Participate in sectoral coordination meetings related to food security, agriculture, climate change, and livelihoods.
6. Sustainability & Environmental Integration
- Ensure all agricultural activities are environmentally sustainable, gender-sensitive, and nutrition-focused.
- Promote agro-ecology, organic farming, and soil conservation practices to reduce environmental degradation.
- Support the establishment of community-based seed banks, nurseries, and demonstration farms for long-term sustainability.
F. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education:
- Bachelor degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Climate Change Adaptation, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in climate-smart agriculture, livelihood development, or food security projects, preferably in NGO/INGO settings.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing climate-resilient farming systems, homestead gardening, and value chain development.
- Previous work in Cox’s Bazar or similar refugee/host community contexts is highly desirable.
- Experience with BMZ, EU, or other donor-funded projects is an advantage.
- Age limit 25 – 40 years
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of climate-resilient agriculture, integrated farming systems, water management, and sustainable land use practices.
- Familiarity with gender-responsive and nutrition-sensitive programming in agriculture.
- Ability to conduct field assessments, crop monitoring, and yield estimation.
- Computer literacy
Management & Communication Skills:
- Excellent training facilitation, report writing, and communication skills in English and Bengali.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure in remote and resource-limited settings.
