Design Specialist

Project : Skills development for Self-reliance of Rohingya women and men corresponding host community -Phase II, Funded by WFP
Location of posting : Cox’s bazar
Types of contract : Fixed term contract
Duration of Contract : Up to 31 December 2023 (if not extended)

Salary and benefits : Monthly Gross Salary BDT. 90,230 with other admissible benefits such as mobile & internet allowance, medical benefit, group life insurance etc

Job Summary
The overall objective of the position is to Product design, Plan and facilitate Design based activities, unique craft techniques and generate product ideas for women and girls, Initiate innovative ideas for design and select the best idea, and Selection of Rohingya women and girls for production.

Key responsibilities include (not limited to)

Product design and participant selection

  • Plan and facilitate Design based activities, unique craft techniques and generate product ideas for women and girls.
  • Identify and engage creative women and girls and nurture their talent through creative processes.
  • Initiate innovative ideas for design and select the best idea.
  • FGD with Rohingya women and girls for identification of interesting trade.
  • Selection of Rohingya women and girls for production.
  • Provide training on innovation and build the capacity of training participants.
  • Involve the training participants in production.
  • Monitor the training activites in 5 centers of 4 camps.
  • Ensure the quality of the product produced by the training participants.
  • Develop linkage with different stakeholders and buyers.
  • Represent AAB in a different program and fair with product.
  • Curriculum/Module development.
  • Give technical support to other CP's (Helpage).

Monitoring and requisition

  • Monitoring the production activities in different centers and ensuring quality training and production.
  • Ensure financial requisitions and material requests and submit on time.
  • Maintain production and delivery stock properly and update the regular stock register.
  • Make available the raw materials and equipment at the training center.
  • Any other specific area of responsibilities assigned by the project management

Reporting

  • Ensuring quality reports and documentation.
  • Prepare draft periodical reports.
  • Guide the reporting team to produce quality reports.

Coordination

  • Ensure effective and active communication, coordination with project team, Camp level relevant actors, buyer, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist the Project Manager to ensure coordination with relevant actors and donors.
  • Facilitate visits by donors, internal/external delegates.
  • Give Technical support to other CP's (Helpage).

Relationships

The Design Specialist will report to Project Manager

Required Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Masters in Fine Arts (M.F.A), or equivalent degree in a relevant subject.
  • At least 3-4 years’ working experience in relevant work in NGO/INGO.
  • Highly desired specially experience in Rohingya response.
  • Proficiency on local language can be an added value.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.

Technical Skills

  • Spoken and written English language skills and the capacity to produce quality reports.
  • Good communication skills and have experience in working with community people.
  • Gender sensitive and familiar with humanitarian principles, specifically Human Rights Based Approach.
  • Good knowledge of using internet and software packages (MS office).
  • Skills in photography will be considered as an asset.
  • Skill needs in Drawing, Design Stitching and other craft related work.
