Officer - Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS)

(For Cox’s Bazar Sadar)

Project : ‘Strengthening Gender-based Violence (GBV) prevention services though OCCs at District and Upazila level and enhancing lifesaving response for women and girls through an integrated GBV and A/SRHR approach in the natural disaster-prone areas of Bangladesh’ project, (funded by UNFPA).
Location of posting : Cox’s Bazar (Sadar)
Duration of Contract : Up to 31 December 2021 (but have a possibility of extension depending on donor fund availability)
Number of positions : 02 (Only women are encouraged to apply)
Salary and benefits : Monthly Gross Salary will be 120,500 /- with other admissible benefits such as medical benefit, mobile & internet allowance and group life insurance etc

Job Summary

This position will be working closely with project team in OCC and in community with an aim to improve the survivor’s mental health wellbeing and psychosocial conditions. Supporting the OCC team by providing guidance and capacity building for the implementation of qualitative psychosocial care and mental health activities. Assisting the case worker in the identification of women and girls in need of specific psychological counselling and ensuring individual or group support for identified survivors.

Key responsibilities include (not limited to)

  • Implementing psychosocial activities and providing psychological consultations on regular basis.
  • Ensure all work with survivors is confidential and that ethical practices are observed. 
  • Document data accurately in the intake forms and ensure they are under lock and key. 
  • Ensure that the MH Data Tool is accurately updated on a regular basis.  
  • Participate in the preparation of accurate reports for all Psycho-social related activities.
  • Assess the survivors’ psychological condition by using psychological tools to detect the vulnerable cases and ensure psychological follow up.
  • Maintain regular contact with all service providers and for referrals from other service providers.
  • Participate in conducting trainings for medical and non-medical staff on Mental Health related topics.
  • Conducting regular Awareness raising session with target communities as per requirement
  • Producing timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information, on MHPSS activities

Relationships

The Officer - MHPSS will be directly reportable to the OCC coordinator/ Program Officer and technically reportable to Project Manager and will be required to report daily. The Officer - MHPSS must be located near the OCC (within 10 km).

Required Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Graduate Degree in Psychology from any recognized University with expertise and experience Mental Health and Psychosocial Support field (flexible in terms of person having working experience in Rohingya Response or relevant)
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in GBV prevention & response, experience to work with community people specially with women.

Technical Skills 

  • Proficiency in local language will be an advantage.
  • Training facilitation skills.
  • Experience working with non-governmental organizations or with local government authorities.
  • Able to take decision in a timely manner, prioritize and multi-task seamlessly.
  • Orientation to gender sensitivity.
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Team player with strong experience in multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environments.
