In Bangladesh, ACTED started its activities in 2017 in order to respond to the Rohingya Refugee Crisis in the sectors of Site Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Community Protection, Information Management, Drain Monitoring & Intervention, Emergency Preparedness Response in the Camps of the Kutupalong-Balukhali Expansion Site, Cox’s Bazar.

Key roles and responsibilities

Data Collection, analysis, and Mapping:

  • Develop data collection tools for Geo-spatial data collection from the field
  • Collect spatial and non-spatial data from different primary and secondary data sources. Where necessary, plan primary data collection through appropriate methods (e.g. remote sensing, collection of GPS points as part of field assessments, etc.)
  • Conduct process monitoring in the field during assessments
  • Conduct data cleaning, data validation, thematic/statistical and spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks
  • Generate maps as per the request and needs of projects
  • Liaise with relevant authorities, United Nations (UN) agencies, Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders at the national/hub/district level on issues related to GIS.
  • Maintain all regular standard GIS products and activities under minimal supervision

Information Management:

  • Design, develop and manage database along with dashboard & track progress of the project through IPTT (Indicator Performance Tracking Table). Consolidate operational information on a regular schedule to support analysis.
  • Produce and update information products such as reports, charts, and infographics by turning data into graphical products to convey messages and a storyline.
  • Generate project’s knowledge documents which include lesson learnt, most significant changes/success stories, case studies
  • Join the IM team in terms of technical and field support during assessment
  • Track and document IT materials of IM Department and troubleshoot IT related problems

Capacity building/Training:

  • Facilitate sessions/ training for capacity building of the field staffs especially on Data Collection Softwares
  • Provide training on map installation, navigation, point identification and digitization

Key Skills:

  • GIS-Geographic Information System (ArcGIS/QGIS/SAGA, Google Earth Engines, Field map)
  • Mobile Data Collection- (mWater/ODK/KOBO/ONA, Google Form)
  • Data Analysis (SPSS, Excel, Google Sheet)
  • Data Visualization (Power BI/Tableau)
  • RDBMS (relational database management system)-MySQL/SQL
  • Programming Language: R/Python/C, C++
 
Required qualifications and technical expertise

The candidate must have the following educational degree ;                                                                          

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Rural Planning-URP, GIS, Geography and Environment, Statistics
Selection Criteria
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • 03 years working experience in NGO/INGOS/UN specially in the field of GIS, Information Management at humanitarian context
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with field teams, local authorities, and local communities
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to plan, take initiative and organize work independently.
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in refugee camp settings and spending majority of time in the field
  • Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment
