ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Action Against Hunger | Action Contre La Faim is one of the leading organization in the fight against hunger worldwide. Founded in 1979, Action Against Hunger is working across 48 countries including Bangladesh. Action Against Hunger begin working in Bangladesh in 2007, following floods in Shariatpur and cyclone Sidr. Since then Action Against Hunger has been working to fight against hunger, undernutrition and responding to humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh with programs in Dhaka, South West and South East parts of Bangladesh

With the supervision by the Divisional Director, the Senior Manager – Communication, Media, Advocacy and CwC” will be responsible to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to promote Action Against Hunger’s programs in Cox’s Bazar S/he will provide guidance and support to staff and establish mechanism to implement communication strategies at field level. As part of the role, s/he will lead Action Against Hunger’s media management, base level advocacy capacity and ’Communication with Communities’ activities in field level.

Through networking and building of external relationships s/he will ensure that Action Against Hunger is directly engaged in dialogue and discussions to influence policy and practices, wherever possible, in relation to the impact population groups where Action Against Hunger works with.

More precisely your main responsibilities will be:

  • Team and project management through defining human resource needs, establishing & adjusting the structure, lead the recruitment of key positions and ensuring gender diversity, Ensure capacity building, improving organizational capacity on communication, documentation and branding through training sessions, organize and lead team meetings.
  • Support the base to develop an advocacy action plan in coordination with Country strategy and ACF’s ISP.
  • With guidance of the Divisional Director, lead the base Communications unit in the development of communications strategy and guidelines for Cox’s Bazar base in line with ACF’s country & global strategy and improve Action Against Hunger engagement with local and national media in Cox’s Bazar level.
  • Contribute to improve internal Communication system, capacity of Action Against Hunger Bangladesh and lead communications planning & implementation in Cox’s Bazar.
  • Media Management, Coordination, Liaison and Advocacy through acting as the focal for media management, coordination and liaison with external stakeholders (Media, GO, NGOs, Local Partners, etc.) for base level advocacy, organize events to highlight Action Against Hunger’s activities.
  • Ensure maximum branding and visibility of ACF Bangladesh.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of CwC activities (e.g. Information Hubs) and delivery of high quality program, support CwC mainstreaming in Action Against Hunger’s programming, led by ‘Communications & Advocacy unit’ based in mission office in Dhaka.

 

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD HAVE:
  • Master degree in Mass Communication, Social Science, Development Studies, Instructional Technology, Education or any relevant subject.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven work experience as a community manager, experience in public information, public relations, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area, especially within humanitarian organizations and contexts;
  • Working experience with media and government officials;
  • Experience on institutionalize system of communication across the staffs, partners and communities related to program development, learning and advocacy activities;
  • Experience launching community initiatives (e.g. building an online forum, creating an event series and writing an email newsletter);
  • Knowledge and experience in liaison with GoB and NGO counterparts and development partners; able to coordinate with appropriate stakeholders;
  • Creativity and initiative in identifying public affairs/advocacy opportunities and needs;
  • Ability to act as an Action Against Hunger ambassador;
  • Knowledge of different aspects of public information and communication;
  • Ability to address a range of issues in the context of humanitarian action, political developments, public attitudes and local conditions;
  • Ability to diplomatically handle sensitive situations with target audiences and cultivate productive relationships;
  • Ability to produce a variety of written and visual communications products in a clear, concise style;
  • Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately;
  • Thinks “outside the box”; takes an interest in new ideas and new ways of doing things;
  • Computer literate with experience of Office (Word, especially Excel, & Power Point) & other systems;
  • Excellent command of English (spoken and written.
OUR BENEFITS INCLUDES:
  • Gross monthly Salary BDT 131,000/-;
  • Festival Bonus: 1 month Gross salary every year;
  • Provident Fund: 7.5% of Basic Salary;
  • Performance Bonus: from 30 % to 80% of monthly Gross salary per year vary from performants;
  • End of Contract Benefits - up to 2 months' Gross salary.
  • Medical coverage: 80% hospitalization coverage medical expenses (max limit BDT 120,000 per year).

PAID LEAVES:

  • 18 days of paid annual leaves per year;
