Publishing Article on “Round Table Meeting on “Marriage Not Before 18” and “Youth Development” in Local Newspaper of Khulna & Satkhira District under Gender Component of Nobo Jatra Project

'Nobo Jatra, a five year USAID Food for Peace Title II Development Food Aid Project commenced in September 2015 and will come to end in September 2020. Led by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB), Nobo Jatra is a shared commitment with World Food Programme (WFP) and Winrock International (WI) as sub grantees and is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) of the Government of Bangladesh. Project implementation is in the south west coastal areas of Bangladesh, in four Upazilas (sub districts) under two districts; Dacope and Koyra in Khulna; Shyamnagar and Kaliganj in Satkhira covering 856,116 direct beneficiaries.

The Nobo Jatra Program (NJP) is implemented using an integrated approach to build synergies across a number of program elements. These include:, Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN),Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Market-based agriculture production and income generation, Microenterprise productivity, Promotional graduation for extreme poor, Civic participation and capacity building for disaster preparedness and planning, Governance and social accountability, with youth development and gender integrated throughout all activities (cross cutting).

To influence reductions in child/early marriage and concomitant reductions in adolescent pregnancy, Nobo Jatra Project is transforming the attitudes and practices surrounding early marriage, especially among influential groups, including religious leaders, birth attendants, fathers and mothers-in-law with awareness and behavior change campaigns. The campaign initiated SBCC interventions included dedicated radio spots, awareness messages scrolling through cable television network, community theater performances, Cycle rally involving adolescent girls, guardian gathering at school level focused to reduce early marriage, billboards and distribution of other materials (e.g., stickers and leaflets, posters). Nobo Jatra project also is working for the Engagement and sensitization of other influential group and Child Protection Committees (CPC) to report and prevent cases of early marriage.

NJP is also working for the youth from it’s working area. Through the project, the youth from community have received skill development training as well as training on preparing themselves for the competitive job market. Nobo Jatra linked them up with different Govt. & non-Govt. institution for getting training and other facilities and continuing to create linkage between the youth and the respective departments effectively. For this, NJP regularly arrange for meeting, workshop, training, round table discussion etc. to focus the above mentioned issues.
