Our Team
The Advocacy and Campaigns Team is a dynamic team of policy, media and communications staff working on Oxfam’s Rohingya Refugee Response in Bangladesh, in close collaboration with the Dhaka Country Team. The team works in coordination with other parts of Oxfam around the world –with the Bangladesh, Myanmar and regional teams – to define advocacy, influencing and campaign strategies to improve the lives of Rohingya refugees and the host community in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
The Role:
The Senor Media Officer will be responsible for generating high quality offline and online media coverage of Oxfam’s campaign messages and its humanitarian work on the Rohingya crisis, in line with the ‘Oxfam One Program’ Media and Communications Strategy. To help deliver strategies for humanitarian emergencies and support fundraising needs. Specifically, this job will be within the Campaigns team to deliver messages to priority stakeholders in Bangladesh and markets across the globe on the situation for Rohingya refugees and host community in Bangladesh.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for an experienced Media professional who has a passion for raising the voices of communities living in crisis and communicating effectively and clearly to a range of audiences. You will be a creative self-starter who has proven experience in producing and managing content for a large organisation or in the media industry, and demonstrable successes in reaching audiences and markets.
Essential
Job Specific
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working on communications or media for an NGO or in journalism.
- Experience in managing large amounts of information, and ability to summarise and make sense of it quickly.
- Experience of writing clear, compelling communications products including press releases, articles, opinion pieces, Q&As, case studies, factsheets/briefings, talking points etc
- Experience in managing risk and organisational reputation
- Experience in collecting human interest case studies, with photography and basic video skills.
- Proven experience in managing media visits
- Extremely strong interpersonal and negotiating skills, enjoying building and maintaining a wide range of relationships.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on a clear and direct, easy to read written style.
- Good knowledge of traditional and social media, and of the relevant communications environment and programme context.
- Must demonstrate commitment and sensitivity to gender and diversity issues.
- A positive, confident and outgoing attitude, able to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
- Ability to work effectively and calmly in a high-pressure environment and to prioritise and manage assignments in a timely fashion. Comfortable working outside and in remote areas that can be difficult to reach.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team as well as remotely with global teams across different time zones and with cultural differences
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla and computer literate. Chittagonian a significant advantage.
- Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication, development studies, advance degree on communication will be an added advantage. Academic degree in social science with relevant experience in internal and external communication and media engagement can be considered.
