Technical Officer Fisheries (1 Position)


The overall responsibilities of this position are to “provide assistance to Fisheries Specialists of WorldFish & Implementing Partner NGOs related to fish culture, nursery management, open water fisheries management, training and other interventions”. The incumbent will require to implement & support the project activities in the field level of SHOUDARDO-III Project.

The position will directly report to the “Fisheries Specialists” of respective Project of WorldFish – Bangladesh and South Asia Office. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist and conducting Training of Trainers on aquaculture and fisheries for Partner NGOs staffs and Field Trainers.
  • Provide technical support to the Farmers Field Business School on aquaculture and to fishermen groups on fisheries management according to the needs of beneficiaries.
  • Mentor and monitor day to day field activities on aquaculture and fisheries at the field level in consultation with Fisheries Specialist on regular basis.
  • Support and provide technical information to Partner NGOs staffs in selecting and establishing demonstration ponds and also assist in organising Farmers Field Day.
  • Report on field situation, identify problems on regular basis, resolve issues in consultation with senior staffs.
  • Prepare different resource map/report showing information/data/photographs on aquaculture and fisheries on regular basis for writing quarterly and annual reports and case studies. 
  • Build awareness on open water fisheries management for selected capture fisheries groups.
  • Provide supports in restoring habitat, demonstrate management techniques like challenged ponds/eco-pond technology.   
  • Provide more technical supports quickly to the grass root level staff of partner NGOs after receiving from WorldFish team.
  • Assist in conducting different research/studies/surveys as per need of the program.
  • Maintain strong liaison and coordination with field level staff of implementing partners and government agencies.

This job is open to Bangladesh nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • BSc in Fisheries/Aquaculture/Biological Science with 3 year experience
  • Working experience with Fishers and open water fisheries management
  • Experience in capacity building of staff and beneficiaries
  • Working experience with government’s fisheries departments, private sectors and local government
  • Must have working experience in remote area of Bangladesh
  • Experience in preparation of program budget and progress reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Bangla
  • Demonstrate WorldFish values

Desired Skills and Qualification

  • At least 2 years working experience in the areas of Fisheries sector development programs
  • Have mentality to stay in remote area

Salary and Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with salary ranging between BDT 35,000 – BDT 40,000 per month. WorldFish's NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage.

Eligibility, Location and Duration

This position will be based at WorldFish respective project area in Gaibandha district, Bangladesh with extensive field visit. Only shortlisted candidate will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial 5 month(s) short term contract, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
