Consultant (GIS Survey Reporting) (1 Position)

WorldFish is looking for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Survey Reporting Consultant to be engaged with the Feed the Future Bangladesh Aquaculture and Nutrition Activity.

The new Activity will pursue a market systems approach, stimulating growth of the private-sector to deliver goods and services to the aquaculture sector in south-west Bangladesh in the Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI), thereby ensuring the sustainability of investments. A key component of the proposal is to assemble a team with experience of applying market systems approaches in development activities. This Activity will carry out GIS resource mapping study to:

  • Analyze and understand the current situation and targets for different actors/nodes in the aquaculture value chain.
  • Illustrate the changes occurring in the ZOI and difference in the recourse base or aquaculture systems between different areas within the ZOI.
  • Identify potential gaps in input supply or market services and provide key decision and policy tool for management of the Activity .
  • Identify the opportunities to link aquaculture production and markets.
  • Map market linkages through Big Data techniques involving private sector suppliers and other actors based on real-time monitoring of data crowd-sourced from thousands of users.
  • Gauge the data gap in aquaculture sector in ZOI, since there is no comprehensive aquaculture market resource map in this area.
  • Help its grantees in their investment, business, market, production and management planning.
  • Assist the Activity sub-grantees by providing real-time spatial information on location and performance of the suppliers of goods & services/value-chain actors.

Key Responsibilities

  • To write a complete report of the GIS survey.
  • Analyzing attribute data, methodology and important maps.
  • Conducting meeting with Data Enumerator, Group Supervisor and Survey Supervisor for learning about the study, challenges, limitations and recommendation for report.

This consultancy contract is open to Bangladesh nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters in GIS, Geography, Economics, Urban and Rural Planning, Aquaculture, Agronomy or any related discipline from reputed university. Degree from foreign institution will be given preference.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience with International NGO.
  • Knowledge about aquaculture market, value chain, trends and other aspects as appropriate.
  • Ability to work under tight deadline and in the rural areas.
  • Excellent computer skills and ICT knowledge.
  • Innovative and proactive in thinking and follow instructions with minimum direction.
  • Strong English writing skills

  • A positive and can-do attitude towards tasks provided (and beyond).
  • Understanding of basic aquaculture and market system
  • Natural interest in making frequent visits to rural area of the ZOI
  • Committed and motivated

Availability of Experts

Experts must be available throughout the duration of an assignment. The duration can range from weeks to months. In some cases the assignment can be shortened or extended depending on business needs. Experts maybe required to travel to countries where we work.

Salary and Benefits

This is open for National consultant and the fees ranging between BDT 4,000 to BDT 4,500 daily depending to the qualification and expertise. Interviews are expected to be held in November 2018 and only shortlisted consultant will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful consultant should be available to commence for maximum of thirty (30) working days in between November 2018 - October 2019.The consultant will be based in Khulna with extensive field visits within Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI) survey area.
