Research Assistant (1 Position)


WorldFish,  Bangladesh  and  South  Asia  is  hiring  Research Assistant  funded  by  USAID  called ‘ECOFISH’ in order to meet its vision: “Be the research partner of choice, delivering high impact, transformative and equitable fisheries and aquaculture solutions to reduce poverty and malnutrition in Bangladesh and South Asia”. The key objective of the ECOFISH project is to improve the resilience of Meghna River ecosystem and livelihoods of communities reliant on the coastal fisheries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Will undertake field level activities of ECOFISH-BD under the supervision of the /Scientist (IR-1: Fisheries Biologist)/ Research Associate (as local supervisor) of the respective Field Research site.
  • Motivate project target community jointly with partners' organizations for ensuring peoples' active participation in project activities.
  • Prepare monthly work plan, implement activities in line with project Intermediate Results (IRs) and submit the report on activities accomplishment including the constraints and measures to overcome the constraints.
  • Will collect all necessary field data and compile for analysis.
  • Keep effective liaison with the government agencies and monitor the activities of partner organizations.
  • Provide and organize training to the target beneficiaries; transfer knowledge to the fishermen and women, and community people for better management of Hilsa and other primary species of coastal region and conserve biodiversity.
  • Organize and facilitate group meeting with target people of the project for changing behavior of the relevant stakeholders.
  • Collect and preserve all fish and other aquatic animal samples.

This job is open to Bangladesh nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Basic concept on capture fisheries, co-management, and socio-economic aspects of fisheries will be appreciated.
  • Past experience with similar job will be given preference.
  • Excellent proficiency of spoken and written English with strong research and writing skills.
  • Able to undertake regular field work, traveling by motorbike/ boat.
  • Should have valid motorbike driving license.

Experience Requirement

Minimum 2 years work experience in Community Based Fisheries Management or Fisheries or Aquaculture development and extension project with focus of field based research activities. Experience may be relaxed for exceptional academic result at graduate level.

Education Requirement

MS/MSc degree in Fisheries/Fisheries Management/Aquatic Resource Management/ Marine Science & Fisheries/Social Science/Anthropology or equivalent degree from a recognized University.

Salary and Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging between BDT 579,481 to BDT 596,866 per annum.

WorldFish's NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.
