Re-advertisement: Fish Health Specialist (1 Position)


WorldFish is hiring for a new aquaculture and nutrition intervention with the USAID Bangladesh Feed the Future Zone of Influence. The new activity will take a market systems approach, stimulating growth of the private-sector to deliver goods and services to the aquaculture sector in south-west Bangladesh, thereby ensuring the sustainability of investments. A key component of the proposal is to assemble a team with experience of applying market systems approaches in development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support aquatic animal health research in Bangladesh and ensure timely delivery of high quality science products
  • Within the aquatic animal health research activities:
  • Support implementation of tilapia health research program in Bangladesh
  • Support implementation of well-designed epidemiological studies
  • Contribute to collaborative research efforts with feeds, husbandry, and genetics themes
  • Ensure implementation of a robust biosecurity program for WorldFish genetics and breeding platform in Bangladesh
  • Support research on shrimp and freshwater prawn diseases in collaboration with USDA SAFETI project
  • Ensure regular coordination with national partners (e.g. DOF, BFR and universiteisI) and support development and implementation of a practical national strategy on aquatic animal health in Bangladesh under BANA
  • Develop and maintain key fish health research and development partnerships including the private sector within Bangladesh
  • Design and implement training programs on molecular disease diagnostics to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide support to capacity building on Aquatic Animal Health to private and public sector
  • Guide and mentor DOF/BFRI team providing disease testing service to the industry
  • Undertake preparation of research papers, project reporting and related communications outputs
  • Assume other responsibilities as agreed with Management
  • Provide support to other bilateral funded health research projects

This job is open to Bangladesh nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Good track record in aquatic animal diseases monitoring and management, diseases diagnosis and epidemiological research.
  • Good technical knowledge in sampling, sample preservation for diseases diagnosis, diagnosis result interpretations.
  • Experience in providing training on aquatic animal health management, biosecurity and diseases diagnosis.
  • Knowledge in handling, designing and management of diseases diagnosis lab
  • Have science publications in impact factor journals.

Desired Skills and Qualification

  • Good in handling essential computer and data handling, including use of software like MS office, SPSS and other diagnostic/disease software.
  • Proficient in MS office, excel, PowerPoint, outlook to support effective communication
  • Willigness to drive motorcycle a necessary and possesses a valid driving licences
  • Proficient in MS office, excel, PowerPoint, outlook to support effective communication
  • Willingness to be based outside Dhaka and travel extensively around 50% or more of the time

Experience Requirement

Minimum of 8 years working experience in aquaculture program. Good knowledge and experience in aquatic animal health management preferred.

Education Requirement

Master Degree in aquaculture, fisheries or related discipline.

Salary and Benefits

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging between BDT 1,249,704 to BDT 1,406,553 per annum.

WorldFish's NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.
