The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh invites applications from Bangladeshi nationals for recruitment of the following position:

Major Duties and responsibilities: The Programme Officer will be responsible for the planning and coordination of all technical and financial aspects of the Scaling up Rice Fortification Initiative. The incumbent will report to the Head, Programme Planning and Implementation Support (PPIS). In addition the incumbent needs to work with staff members working in other Sections/Units for rice fortification to ensure coordinated efforts in achieving the objectives of the initiative. The incumbent will specifically perform the following major duties:

  • Coordination of the Project Team members and external focal points (both Government and non-Government) involved;
  • Act as the focal person and maintain liaison with the agencies/partners involved in undertaking effectiveness study and training/advocacy supports, providing these agencies with necessary guidance, and monitoring their progress against the plan;
  • Planning share and use of the information generated from the reviews and studies strategically thus contributing towards Government buy in for the integration and scaling up rice fortification in Government safety net programmes;
  • Working with the relevant WFP staff members and contributing in the formulation of partnerships with private entrepreneurs for commercial marketing opportunities of fortified rice;
  • Continue updating the detailed workplan, in consultation with project team members, and ensure timely follow-up to achieve the targets and within the approved budget;
  • Establishing monitoring framework and reporting tools;
  • Conducting regular progress meetings with WFP internally, and with the donors;
  • Addressing donor reporting requirements – i.e. Quarterly Reports, Annual Reports, Financial Reports and Final Reports;
  • Facilitation of working sessions, public events, and WFP or GoB engagement in national and international workshops, as necessary;
  • Ensuring effective and regular communication from WFP with other key stakeholders;
  • Developing periodic reports, progress updates, presentations and briefs, for government, and other stakeholders, etc. as required; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Results Expected: Effective and efficient coordination of the Rice Fortification Initiative; Problems are analysed and solutions proposed to supervisor in a proactive manner. Regular and effective liaison with the project team members, relevant sub-offices and WFP sections; Strong strategic and sustainable working relationship with partners, and service providers; Effective promotion of the Rice Fortification Initiative and learning and innovation activities internal and external through updates, periodic reports, workshops and events to encourage knowledge sharing and contribute to policy dialogue engagement with government and development partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: University Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: environmental studies, natural resource management, social science, development studies or a related scientific/technical discipline.

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible job related professional experience including at least Four years closely related to programme functions.

Knowledge: Excellent in utilizing computers; MS Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, and Internet.

Language: Fluency in Bangla and English language, both oral and written is essential.
