The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh invites applications from Bangladeshi nationals for recruitment of the following position:

Major Duties and responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (International) the Senior ICT Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • responsible at the Cox’s Bazar level for the smooth functioning of the SCOpe system to ensure timely access to food assistance for the refugees, as well as to ensure timely facilitation for food retailers who will be using the system.
  • responsible for regular field monitoring to ensure the SCOpe system is functioning well for end users.
  • facilitate the monthly updating and uploading of beneficiary data, as received from UNHCR and the Government of Bangladesh, and reconcile data as necessary.
  • provide support to vendors, including ensuring the regular syncing of Point-of- Sale (POS) machines.
  • troubleshoot ICT issues for Cox’s Bazar SO and escalate issues to ICT Dhaka when necessary.
  • receive incidents and service requests through phone, email or any other medium and log them as tickets in the Incident Management System. To assign the priority to the tickets based on Urgency and Impact of the issue;
  • perform analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex IT problems for end-users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions for remote users as needed;
  • monitor LAN/WAN and perform preventive and corrective measures to ensure network & Internet availability, performance of ISP for Cox’s Bazar SO and report to ICT Officer in Dhaka at the end of each month.
  • plan for ICT system and equipment preventative maintenance and execute the plan accordingly.
  • evaluate, recommend and implement ITIL best practices wherever applicable to improve IT business processes;
  • ensure data availability, integrity and continuity by taking backup, prepare disaster preparedness and/or business continuity plan for the SO.
  • ensure optimal radio network (HF & VHF) operations for Cox’s SO through implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and the provision of guidelines and training to end users on radio usage and basic maintenance;
  • perform daily data backup; weekly radio check and monthly Satphone test calls;
  • maintain and oversee PABX and related services
  • perform any other related tasks under the direct supervision of the Head of Sub- Office and overall technical guidance of the ICT Officer in Dhaka and undertake additional tasks as required. This includes general ICT support to the WFP Cox’s Bazar Sub-Office.

Results Expected: Well organised, reports and/or records, put together independently with only general guidance. Well organized work with accurate information and databases; efficiently supervised team of support staff or work unit.

Minimum qualifications:

Education: Preferably University degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering

Experience: At least five years of progressively responsible job related experience in information technology or Engineering or information management, such as, WAN/LAN networking, operating systems, telephone services, radio unit, web design, registry or similar experience.

Required Certification: MCITP/MCSE, CCNA, ITIL

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Bangla.
