Major Duties and responsibilities: Under the overall guidance of the Country Director and
direct supervision of the international Public Information Officer, the incumbent will be
responsible for the following duties:
- Establish and maintain media contacts within Bangladesh, at central level (Dhaka)
and in the areas where WFP works;
- Maintain an up-to-date media contact list;
- Under guidance from the supervisor, keep the media updated on WFP’s activities
and address media queries;
- Assist in the organization of media interviews;
- Perform media monitoring of local English and Bengali language media, and in
case of Bengali media prepare synopses of relevant articles in English language;
- Analyze and articulate political and social events highlighted in local media that
affect WFP and identify opportunities for WFP to influence public debate on
hunger, food security and nutrition;
- Work on WFP media/advocacy campaigns;
- Draft news releases, feature articles, briefing notes, backgrounders, Questions &
Answers (Q&A) and other materials for use in the media and distribution to the
public;
- Assist in the planning and documentation of donor field visits and ceremonies;
- Produce photographic/video material, brochures and other documentation;
- Prepare briefing papers and talking points as required;
- Assist in managing social media for the country office;
- Travel to WFP-assisted programme locations in various parts of the country,
conduct interviews with beneficiaries and other stakeholders and complement with
photos and small films;
- Contribute to the work of the UN Communications and Advocacy Group in
Bangladesh;
- Evaluate the relative effectiveness of strategies and make recommendations for
future action to the supervisor; and
- Perform other related duties as required.

Willingness and ability to travel to remote rural locations with overnight stays in districts or

Minimum qualifications:
Education: Master degree in one or more of the following disciplines: journalism (preferably
foreign correspondence and international media), international relations, public relations,
communications or other related fields.
Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible support experience including at
least two years in the field of public information or another related field.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Bengali language.
Knowledge:
Training and/or experience utilising computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and
other standard WFP software packages and systems (Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word,
Power-point). Ability to make different types of presentations. General knowledge of UN
system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
Desirable skills:
Ability to use digital video and still cameras; ability to select good photos; and ability to edit
video.
