  The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh invites applications from Bangladeshi nationals for recruitment of the following position:

Major Duties and responsibilities: Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer (Rice Fortification), the Senior Programme Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Maintain the work-plan for the rice fortification project and regularly update the progress on implementation of the activities;
  • Assist the relevant colleagues in various Sections/Units (Logistics and Procurement, Private Partnerships, Programme and Finance) by providing weekly update on progress in implementation of activities as per plan and in accordance with the deadlines;
  • Maintain overview of the budget for the project, provide necessary guidance to the relevant WFP collages to ensure expenditure in conformity with the approved project budget;
  • Circulate the status on utilization of fund under this project on a monthly basis received to all team members of the project, including the relevant colleagues in Finance and Resource Management;
  • Follow-up with the relevant Government agencies on the issuance of various circulars, guidelines, etc.;
  • Follow-up with inter-agency technical committee in organizing technical and steering committee meetings;
  • Assist in the formulation of the partnership agreements/arrangements (with icddr,b, CARE Bangladesh, BRAC and others) with agencies involved in undertaking assessments, conducting training/sensitization activities, along with the budget, as required for the project;
  • Assist in coordinating preparation of the monthly operational update highlighting key achievements and shortcomings/underachievement of targets;
  • Coordinate joint field visits of various stakeholders involved in the project including the officials from various Government agencies;
  • Assist in organizing various events, training and orientation sessions;
  • Undertake monitoring field visits;
  • Maintain related project documents, agreements, Government circulars, guidance materials; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Expected Results: Well organized, complete and accurate reports, records and/or data put together independently with only general guidance.

Information seeking: Consolidates data obtained from multiple sources. Identifies areas where further research and analysis are necessary.

Education and Experiences: University degree and/or equivalent with emphasis in one or more of the following disciplines; Social Sciences, Development Studies, or other related field. At least four years of progressively responsible support work experience including at least three years closely related to programme functions.

Other Desirable Skills: MS Office such as Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge in spreadsheet and other software packages.

Language: Fluency in both written and oral English and Bangla essential.
