  The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Bangladesh invites applications from Bangladeshi nationals for recruitment of the following position:

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Country Director (DCD) and direct supervision of the Head of Programme, the incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Represent WFP vis-à-vis the Ministry of Women & Children Affairs (MoWCA) and Department of Women Affairs (DWA) with respect to their ongoing collaboration on strengthening and reforming the Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme;
  • Support MoWCA/DWA to carry out agreed priority reforms to the VGD programme, and identify other opportunities for strengthening the programme.
  • Represent WFP in day-to-day dialogue with institutional donors who are providing financial assistance in support of WFP’s collaboration with the VGD programme;
  • Coordinate the WFP’s VGD Support Unit – a small team comprised of WFP staff who are working full-time on strengthening and reforming the VGD programme;
  • Work constructively with other WFP colleagues based in the WFP country office (Dhaka) as well as field locations;
  • Develop strategic partnerships between WFP and other important Governmental and non-Governmental actors in the social protection arena in Bangladesh;
  • Support WFP senior management to remain abreast of key developments in the social protection arena in Bangladesh that are of relevance to the organization and its mission.
  • Any other duties, as required.

Minimum qualifications:

Education: Advanced University degree in one or more of the following: Social Science, Economics, Development Studies, or a field relevant to development and poverty reduction. Preference will be given to the candidates having training/diploma on Social Protection, Safety-Net and capacity development related subjects.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least three years of postgraduate professional experience in the humanitarian/development sector;
  • Strong conceptual knowledge on social protection, and how it relates to poverty alleviation and nutrition;
  • Familiarity with the policy and institutional landscape for social protection in Bangladesh;
  • Prior experience of working on government capacity building and/or policy reform processes;
  • Prior experience of managing projects funded by large institutional donors;
  • Prior experience of supervising staff;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity;
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills;
  • Strong team-building skills;

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in both English and Bangla.
