Project Officer
for urban WASH project

WaterAid, an international NGO, is looking for a dynamic, passionate and self-driven individual to fill in the above position based at its country office in Bangladesh.

WaterAid provides water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services for the poor and marginalised people and influences the government, development partners and community to become more responsive and pro-poor in delivering WASH facilities. Recognising the hydro-geological variation, WaterAid offers a range of context-specific water and sanitation technologies in Bangladesh to make a lasting change.

As the Project Officer, the position’s key responsibilities include to:

  • Play an active role to achieve the objectives of the organization in relation to its urban programme
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant agencies, local government institutions and

other relevant stakeholders for influencing them for pro-poor services and efficient system

  • Support partner NGOs to develop transparent, decentralized, community-based planning, budgeting and implementation processes that are inclusive of, and responsive to, the demands of communities and households, and the poor and disadvantaged, in particular
  • Follow up the progress of programme implementation and provide necessary guidance to partner NGOs for ensuring quality of work
  • Facilitate process to assess training needs, design curriculum, develop relevant materials to organize and facilitate training and workshops on various WASH related issues.
  • Support organizations and partners to identify advocacy issues in relation to the urban programme and facilitate to organize advocacy events at different levels
  • Engage and support in new programme/ project development
  • Identify the opportunity to jointly work with other service providers, utility departments etc. to promote better environmental sanitation
  • Support organization and partners to integrate WASH issues in the health and education systems
  • Prepare progress reports, learning and good practice documents and disseminate to relevant and appropriate audiences
  • Design and organise different events, campaigns and support partner NGOs in implementation process
  • Support social mobilization, behavior change and community strengthening mechanism under the project

Requisite qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Masters preferably in Public Health/ Development Studies/ Environmental Education/ Urban Planning/ Sociology or any other relevant subject
  • At least 04 (four) years relevant work experience with a reputed national/international NGO/ development sector; this may be relaxed for excellent academic attainment or for graduation/post-graduation from abroad
  • Proven track records on programme/ project planning and implementation
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation and writing skill both in Bangla & English
  • Strong monitoring and reporting skill
  • Adequate computer skills on MS word, Excel, Powerpoint and other software application
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to produce outputs within tight deadlines in a very busy environment
  • Must be a team player with mutual trust and understanding in a mixed team
  • Ready to undertake extensive field visits outside Dhaka (50% of total time at least)

Preferable:

  • Experience to work in urban sector
  • Working experience with international NGO
  • Experience to work in WASH sector
  • Experience in partner management
Reportable to : Project Manager – Urban Project
Work station : Dhaka, Bangladesh
Working hours : Full time (05 days a week with minimum 37.5 hours per week)
