Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is a UK-based international development organization having operations in 26 countries around the world. It was founded in the year of 1958, headquartered in London and started its operation in Bangladesh in the year of 1974 with a vision to create the world without poverty in which people work together to fulfill their potential by linking both international & national volunteers in development initiatives.  

After the global success of NCS project in several operational countries of VSO, VSO Bangladesh is going to start National Citizen Service (NCS) project from September 2017 funded by UKAID, bringing together young national volunteers tomake a difference in some of the poorest communities in Bangladesh starting in Gaibandha, Barisal Sadar and Satkhira. Currently, VSO Bangladesh is looking for 30 (15 Female & 15 Male) dynamic youth volunteers and youth volunteer team leaders. The project aims to create positive changes in rural communities in the area of Livelihood, Good Governance, Youth & Women Employability and Entrepreneurship and Adolescent & Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Rights by building personal development of youth and promote them as active citizens.

  • Title: Youth Volunteer Team Leader (It’s a volunteering role, not employment)
  • Placement: Rural community of Gaibandha, Barisal Sadar and Satkhira.
  • Duration: Tentatively from September 10, 2017 to December 26, 2017

Mandatory requirements

  • Certificate age must be within 23 to 35.
  • Experience either voluntary or professional in leading and motivating young people.
  • Able to support young people both individually and as a team, and gain the respect and trust of others
    through leading by example.
  • Able to coordinate a project or initiative.
  • Able to cope with change.
  • Able to empower and motivate team members.
  • Able to manage a variety of projects in a varied environment.
  • Clear understanding of volunteerism.
  • Title: Youth Volunteer (It’s a volunteering role, not employment)
  • Placement: Rural community of Gaibandha, Barisal Sadar and Satkhira.
  • Duration: Tentatively from September 19, 2017 to December 18, 2017

Mandatory requirements

  • Certificate age must be within 18 to 25.
  • Able to cope with change.
  • Clear understanding of volunteerism.
  • Passion about living/working/volunteering in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Positive, realistic, committed and practical problem solving ability.
  • Flexible, adoptable and sensitive to others’ opinion.

Allowance & other facilities for both team leader youth volunteer & youth volunteer

VSOB will take the responsibility for Basic Accommodation and Food, Medical Support, Life Insurance, Transport, Safety and Security during the placement. In addition, both youth volunteers & youth volunteer team leaders will receive an allowance of BDT 8,000 per month. Both youth volunteers & youth volunteer team leaders will get Certificate after completion of the cycle from VSO Bangladesh.

Mandatory requirements for both team leader youth volunteer & youth volunteer

  • Must be willing to full time stay without any break including all holidays in rural communities of Gaibandha, Barisal Sadar and Satkhira maximum of 12 weeks as a youth volunteer and maximum of 16 weeks as a youth volunteer team leader.  
  • A clear interest in community development and proactive towards the development of marginalized people.
  • Habituated/interested to reside in remote villages with basic accommodation, food, and other facilities.
  • Committed and proactive to work in a diverse multi-cultural team.
  • Commitment to share experiences with team members and proactive to take actions in the respective local community after completion of the cycle.
