Communications Officer

Position Description

The Communications Officer will fulfil the communications needs of the Head Office. She/he/they will work closely with Project Managers and other project staff to ensure the quality and visibility of United Purpose’s work in Bangladesh. S/he will act as a focal point person for the media and will assist in the development, design and delivery of communications materials for a variety of projects including, but not limited to, our humanitarian response, food security and livelihoods, nutrition, social business, women’s economic empowerment and market and value chain development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key functions:

  • Lead all communications efforts of United Purpose Dhaka office in collaboration with field offices
  • Support Dhaka team, and occasionally field teams, to gather and compile information for external and internal reporting
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Programme Development Officer to formulate communication plans and materials
  • Gather evidence of the organisation’s impact, reach and project activities using a variety of communication channels, including case stories, project summaries, reports, etc.
  • Gather a bank of communications materials, including photographs, audio-visuals, interviews, case stories, for the organisation
  • Support in organizing events
  • Initiate and develop links with media channels to ensure relevant coverage of United Purpose’s work where relevant
  • Train project staff on communication and documentation, including photography, field reports, gather case stories, in line with the organisation’s branding guidelines

Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, media relations or related field
  • Master’s in relevant discipline desirable

Job Experience and Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in communications and/or journalism
  • Willingness to travel to different projects areas
  • Fluency in English and Bangla (spoken and written)
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office Suites (MS Word, Excel, Power Point etc.) and knowledge of graphic design and video editing software desirable  
  • Proven ability to produce high quality infographics would be an advantage
  • Creativity and strong proven skills in photography and basic videography desirable
  • Ability to draft and develop human-interest and case stories for online and print publication
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills essential
