Project Brief

SMILE (Sustainable and Meaningful Intervention for Livelihood Enrichment) is a five-year project from 2023 to 2028, implemented by Swisscontact Bangladesh. It aims to address the immediate needs of local communities in five districts in Bangladesh – Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Dhaka. The project has six main components: Education, Skills Development, Health, Cooperative Governance, Environment and Community Safety, and Technology Innovation.

The environment and community safety component of the SMILE Project is committed to ensuring the sustainable well-being of both our environment and the communities it supports. Aligned with our steadfast dedication to addressing environmental issues and enhancing community resilience, this component stands as the cornerstone of the project's endeavors. Through strategic partnerships with local communities, NGOs, INGOs, private and public organizations, the project seeks to execute a series of impactful interventions. These interventions not only contribute to environmental conservation and ecological balance but also empower communities to actively engage in the safeguarding of their natural surroundings. Project’s approach encompasses a range of key activities, including tree plantation campaigns, awareness-raising initiatives, nature-based solutions, and biodiversity preservation, all with the overarching goal of fostering a sustainable and resilient environment in the selected locations. This component epitomizes the project’s unwavering commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and community safety, with ultimate benefits extending to all stakeholders involved.

In alignment with our project goals, a key strategy focuses on enhancing the Solid Waste Management system within the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC).
