The role
The incumbent will work with the Communications and Media Manager to identify and proactively develop relationships with influential Bangladesh media (Cox’s Bazar), write / provide guidance on newsworthy press materials.

The incumbent is further responsible for monitoring case studies, success stories, and new initiatives at Rohingya refugee camps (in order to pitch them to media on a regular basis), as well as documenting programs when required.

S/he will develop media pieces, articles, and opinion pieces to promote the Rohingya Response interventions; write press release in Bangla and English (if required) to disseminate regular updates, on key milestones for the local and national media; draft content to be used in social media, including blogs, tweets, Facebook posts and monitor social media to identify repetitional issues and for opportunities for the organization to raise its profile. Monitor the local and national media coverage relating to the Rohingya crisis generally and Save the Children’s works specifically. Translate key media items into Bangla when required. Collect case studies, photos and videos of Save the Children projects relating to the emergency response. Support in documenting project success stories and case studies. Assist in research/study/survey as stated in program proposal.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in journalism, media relations, communications, or related areas;
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a journalist, press officer or in a position which involves media handling;
  • Strong track record in obtaining media coverage, demonstrated skill in generating and pitching news stories;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla;
  • Ability to work fast, effectively and independently in often high-pressure environments, working across a number of teams to deliver high media output;
  • Sound grasp of different media outlets at local and national level – including key influential titles and outlets;
  • Demonstrable ability to meet deadlines and make decisions on what to prioritize when working under pressure on a number of projects;
  • Good understanding of the use of media to undertake campaigns and advocacy work;
  • Experience in handling social media accounts;
  • Experience in working in multicultural environment,
  • Experience of building personal networks of relevant media contacts;
  • Photography, audio and filming skills
  • Strong Communication and Documentation skills;
  • Highly Proficient in English and Bangla
  • Basic knowledge of social media analytics
  • Previous experience working in the humanitarian sector is an advantage
  • Previous experience working in the Rohingya Crisis is an added advantage

Contract length: 06 months with possibility of extension depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
