Job Context

We are currently seeking an adaptable, successful, and experienced Senior Fabric Technologist/ Fabric Technologist for our liaison office in Bangladesh. In order to succeed in this position, you need to be highly driven, have a passion for learning about and engaging with new cultures, and a desire to build a business from the ground up.

Job Scope

To ensure technical design, development and production of fibres, yarns, textiles and finishes are per company standard and end product performs to minimum specifications and is fit for purpose.

Responsibilities:

FABRIC TESTING

  • Implement testing of fabric and garments all initial stages of the garment development process.
  • Workable tolerances for fabric performance at product development stage, liaising with the Technical team.
  • Liaison with the customer to agree base performance standards is also required.
  • Submit non-conformances on fabric performance to the garment technical team.
  • Check the necessary reports including bulk test reports and care label to ensure all details are correct.
  • Evaluate garment wash/ dye performances in terms of aesthetical, colour & testing performances.

FABRIC DEVELOPMENT

  • Responsible for developing fabric and ensuring that they are maintained to minimum commercial standards of the customer with the fabric supplier.
  • Liaison with product managers and buyers, to make sure that chosen fabrics meet the needs of their clients in terms of quality & performance.
  • To provide technical support to other team members and carry out analysis of compositions, fabrics and finishes.
  • Assess whether the fabrics and finishes requested are within the capabilities of machinery, costing and the capabilities of a fabric supplier.

PRODUCTION

  • Oversees a proactive pre-production process with suppliers to evaluate each stage of – fabric production, dyeing, printing finishing – for potential problems before ironing them out.
  • Active involvement in risk analysis meetings with internal team’s suppliers to evaluate each stage of fabric production and garment production – for potential problems, before ironing them out.
  • To ensure timely, accurate base submissions to NUK fabric technologist with the timeframe of an agreed critical path.
  • Train the supply base: Mills, printers and garment vendor in the correct submission procedures, minimum fabric performance standards.
  • Work with the bulk merchandising teams & fabric suppliers to ensure timely and accurate bulk submissions to NUK buying team.
  • Ensuring fabric quality in physical performance areas such as strength, durability, stability, colourfastness, wand chemical resistance is achieved to an agreed customer standard.
  • Advising none-technical colleagues on technical aspects of the business.
  • Responds to product queries, including complaints, from vendors and customers, in a professional and timely manner.
  • Controlling fabric delivered to garment vendors is of a consistent pre-agreed quality.

MILL ASSESSMENT

  • Completes mill, laundry and print plant evaluations
  • Controls fabric and trim productions meets customer’s requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The right candidate needs to possess the following skills and experience:

  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Technology.
  • Experience: 5-10 years working experience in from Woven/Denim Mill or as Fabric Technologist in a fast paced multinational company.
  • Technical knowledge & experience are essential for Woven/Knit Fabric Construction & their performances.
  • Knowledge about yarn selection based on unique fabric construction is essential.
  • Experience in woven/Knit fabric processing route is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge on Woven/Knit/Sweater fabric test parameters is must.
  • Garment wash/dye experience is essential
  • Problem Solving Skills/
  • Should have practical experience in a fast paced/multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluency in English as well as local language.
  • Experience of working with UK retailers would be advantageous but not essential.
