Deputy Program Coordinator

Responsibilities and description of tasks:

The SI Bangladesh mission is a middle scale mission, involved in a wide range of humanitarian and DRR activities.

The Deputy Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting SI projects (with potential for growth into additional project areas as identified by SI) through the representation of SI with all partners linked to SI projects, the timely follow up on issues presented by those partners as well as facilitating links internal to SI to relevant departments. In addition, the Deputy Program Coordinator will support the Program Manager(s) in reporting, low level MEAL activities as designed by the MEAL Coordinator, capitalization on key activities and donor reporting. The Deputy Program Coordinator will be contributing to the wider organizational strategy by both proposing changes and new directions in link with partnerships as well as supporting SI in achieving its wider strategy within the context of SI projects.

His/ her main responsibilities in below:

Project quality:

  • Support in ensuring the quality of the programming, technical inputs and overall strategy through providing functional links to technical coordinators based on project need;
  • Communicating with Project Managers about technical guidance and support;
  • Supporting in ensuring the project strategy is in line with the wider strategy of Solidarites International;
  • Providing detailed reporting, project updates and communicating clearly regarding the timeframe of the project and any challenges or delays that might ensure;
  • Supporting the project teams through the provision of MEAL templates, guidance and technical issues in line with the strategy given by the MEAL Coordinator;
  • Timely MEAL reporting to the MEAL Coordinator when applicable;
  • Supporting the MEAL Coordinator in trainings and other ad hoc MEAL activities that might take place including being trained in ToTs for further training to localized teams.

Coordination, technical support and operational monitoring:

  • Together with the Deputy Country Director – Programs and MEAL Coordinator, suggest objectives and specific and general indicators in order to assess and monitor the impact of the programs and to reshape them if necessary.
  • Support Program Managers for carrying out and/or supervising task and resource planning over time, according to the objectives which have been set.
  • Suggest new tasks/projects as regards organizational strategy and proficient analysis of the situation (contribute to annual scheduling) to Deputy Country Director - Programs.
  • Monitor the development of current programs (progress, suitability and effectiveness) and suggest modifications to Deputy Country Director – Program’s and Technical Coordinators as needed;
  • Support the teams on site, by regularly visiting intervention sites planned with the Deputy Country Director – Programs, pre-empting problems and listening to the teams.
  • Supervise the implementation of the contingency plan of the mission and propose adaptation when necessary.
  • Provide the key communication line between the mission and technical coordinators, emphasized by ongoing attendance in Dhaka level working group meetings and disseminating widely information.

Strategic orientation and Partnerships:

  • Be the key focal point for strategic and operational partnerships in relation to SI projects;
  • Represent, report and disseminate information to the Country Director and Deputy Country Director – Programs;
  • Make links and share information as needed between partnerships and support and technical coordinators, facilitating communication between SI partners and any concerned department internally;
  • Follow up on both micro and macro issues with partners;
  • Propose and contribute to develop a global strategy in accordance with SI’s policies and priorities for the intervention country and in link with partnership orientation;
  • Participate in humanitarian needs identification and analysis and in the conceptualization of appropriate activities in collaboration with targeted communities.
  • Contribute to the draft project ideas / concept notes / proposal development process and general SI objectives to the needs of the local populations;
  • Potentially supporting other members of staff in exploratory or data collection missions into potential new areas of SI programming.


  • Supporting the Program Manager(s) on capitalization of the two projects and sharing those lessons learnt with the Deputy Country Director – Programs;
  • Communicate clearly about any successes and challenges faced within the project and seeking support from appropriate persons;
  • Facilitate relevant workshops, coordination meetings and/or technical exchange programs.

Reporting / communication / representation:

  • Participate in information collection, through development of a network of humanitarian stakeholders.
  • Along with partners provide inputs into broader project management committees that meet ;
  • Ensure that project files are complete and regularly updated with periodic reporting and monitoring information and communications.
  • Ensure that all reports are delivered on time and in the correct format to the line manager.
  • Assist the Program Managers to produce their monthly package and to produce their APU.
  • Ensure with the Deputy Country Director - Programs that SI is represented at all meetings or relevant forum, especially at governmental level.
  • Represent the organization upon request.
  • Qualifications and Competencies: 
  • Master's or Engineer's degree in Development, WASH, rural development, project management, or any other related field (Can be balanced by experience).
  • Age N/A
  • Both males and females are allowed to apply
  • Substantial experience (at least 5 years) in a senior management position in NGO/INGO and/or governmental environment
  • Solid experience of program implementation WASH sector. Experience in other different development or humanitarian fields e.g.; Food security and/or Livelihood and/or DRR and/or Climate change adaptation and / or Community mobilization and/or Gender-inclusiveness (...) will be considered as added values.
  • Experience in dealing with donors and external stakeholders
  • Experience in Leadership and Team management under different contexts
  • Experience of budget management
  • Capacity to deal with multiple issues, programs, sectors, to self- update and learn very quickly from a highly and constantly evolving environment
  • Strong representation, communication and public relations skills
  • A flexible approach to manage and prioritize potential workloads and multiple tasks with tight deadlines
  • Interest for innovative solution in humanitarian intervention.
  • Proven knowledge on project cycle management and monitoring tools
  • Confident and proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Sphynx (optional)
  • Report writing and analytical skills
  • Very good command in English (both Oral and Written)
  • Ability to take decisions and work in autonomy
  • Interest for both field and institutional work and capacity to switch from one to another.
  • Understanding of and commitment to SI's mission and its values

Salary Range: Monthly consolidated salary BDT 1,18,860 and other benefits as per HR policy of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL.
