PROTECTION OFFICER


SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is an international humanitarian organization based in Paris, France, which provides aid and assistance to victims of war and natural disasters. For the past 35 years, the organization’s vocation has been to meet the three vital needs - drinking, eating and sheltering – of vulnerable populations around the world. Our programs mainly focus on emergency relief actions related to water and sanitation but also related to food security as well as shelter and infrastructure rehabilitation and reconstruction.

PROTECTION OFFICER
Affectation: Teknaf, Bangladesh
Possible Start of the activities: July 20, 2018
Number of positions: 08
Duration of the contract: up to December 31, 2018 (with possibility of extension), Based on the implementation of new ISR, duration and terms of conditions of the position may change.

Responsibilities and description of tasks:

The Protection officer is in charge to identify and refer survivors of abuse, extremely vulnerable individuals or needs in SI working areas or during assessment of new areas.

He/she support the program team to mainstream protection in regular activities

He/she participates in monitoring the implemented protection activities and assessing new needs.

His/ her main responsibilities in below:

Identification/need assessment:

  • Help in setting up criteria for selecting beneficiaries
  • Identification of target groups through the communities based on vulnerability criteria (women and girls, PWSNs, survivors of abuse, etc.)
  • Collect accurate data’s at the community level through different qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Assist in conducting baseline survey
  • Report any emerging needs to the Program manager and his/her assistant

Referral:

  • Identify, refer and follow-up survivors of abuses and extremely vulnerable individuals (EVI) to relevant services providers
  • Work closely with Solidarites International non-specialized team with regards to the report of protection cases
  • Ensure that urgent and challenging cases are immediately discussed with direct supervisors.
  • If necessary and required by the Protection Activity Manager, accompany protection cases referred to services providers
  • Work with cultural sensitivity and respect the dignity of vulnerable individuals, families and members of the refugee and host communities at all times.

Communication / representation

  • Support technical team to settle committees or any other community association
  • Mobilize the targeted communities and create awareness about protection risks and activities
  • Build a strong network among communities targeted to gather information about protection risks and trends
  • Listen to complains and protection concerns expressed by different groups of the communities
  • With active participation of different groups, propose community-based solutions to prevent, mitigate and address protection risks
  • Support actively Solidarités International protection activities with regards to community mobilization and communication with local authorities, site and village leaders

Implementation and operational monitoring

  • Monitor the implemented activities at the community level by onsite regular visits
  • Raise awareness and train beneficiaries on protection related topics (if requested by the Protection Activity Manager)
  • Follow activities implemented by other organizations in Solidarités International’s area of intervention and report to the Protection Activity Manager
  • Assist in conducting assessment survey to control progress of program and efficiency of activities
  • Work closely with the program team to mainstream protection in regular programs

Reporting

  • Share with the Protection Activity Manager and his/her assistant every information about security, activities, logistics or administrative issues occurred at field level
  • Participate in the preparation of regular protection reports
  • Participate to general program and protection meetings (weekly, monthly…)
  • Communicate orally about any important issue in internal staff meetings

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • Bachelor in Social Science/development studies/relevant field
  • Minimum of 1-2 years professional experience in humanitarian and/or development programs and in the relevant field
  • Excellent skills in Chittagonian language
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural tolerance;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment;
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office can be added value
  • Knowledge on local context

Salary Range: Monthly consolidated salary BDT 38,300/- and other benefits as per HR policy of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL.
