Job Profile: Manager, Village Super Market (VSM)

Introduction

Solidaridad is working across 53 countries through 9 Regional Excellence Centre’s, and facilitating development of socially responsible, ecologically sound, and profitable supply chains. In Bangladesh, Solidaridad has been implementing the Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security and Linkages (SaFaL) Programme in southwest Bangladesh with the overall objective to enhance food and nutrition security of smallholder farmers and landless workers through improved production practices, business and supply-chain development. Through a multi-stakeholder initiative, SaFaL developed business models for inclusive value chains of agricultural commodities for dairy, fruits and vegetables, and fisheries those brought positive outcomes for smallholders through increased productivity and income, quality of nutritious food intake as well as economic and environmental benefits. Solidaridad Network Asia under the operational system by board of trustees has erected Village Super Market (VSM), which is Producers & sellers interaction platform with prospective future expansion.

Overall Job Description

The Manager is responsible for overall business operations of the VSM. S/he will oversee work and guide the executives in each category: Aquaculture, Horticulture, and Dairy. Onboard input manufacturers in Aquaculture, Horticulture, and Dairy segment development and implementation of public relations activities targeting different stakeholders to promote the brand image of VSM. The Manager will plan, coordinate and implement business outreach of VSM operational activities.
The position is based in Khulna/ Jessore, will report directly to the General Manager-Business.

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Plan, forecast, report on sales, costs and business performance of VSM
  • Handle costs and overheads, and all factors affecting the profitable performance of the complex.
  • Keeping stock control systems up to date; planning future capacity requirements; producing regular reports and statistics.
  • Work with the Category Team to set order point & target sales level.
  • Monitor products receiving/ dispatch as per product specification.
  • Conformity to PR, GR, Product related issues etc. on time.
  • Lead role in planning receiving/delivery schedules, product availability, promotional activities etc.
  • Maintaining specified highest standard of the entire complex hygiene, cleanliness, grooming and health and safety procedure at all time.
  • Ensuring that all appropriate safety regulations are being followed both with regards to personal safety and safety of inventory.
  • Implement, adhere and monitor the effectiveness of VSM processes and procedures.
  • Train and mentor subordinates to understand VSM activity processes and procedures
  • Ensuring complete security & compliance for the entire VSM complex at the highest level.
  • Maintain desired levels of people productivity at the VSM complex.
  • Liaise with external agencies and local authorities as necessary (fire services, police, local council, health and safety inspectors, etc.)
  • Continually seek opportunities to be innovative and increase efficiency within work stream.
  •  Predict and identify trends and dynamics within the external marketplace in relation to Operations and provide recommendations on how to leverage those. 

Education & Experience Criteria

Graduate in any disciple from reputed university (Education is flexible for highly experienced candidate)

  • Specialization in General Management / Operation.
  • 7-8 Years Practical Experience on Operation of Agribusiness or retail market/Chain shop.
  • Sound knowledge of traditional Agribusiness activities.
