The Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh represents the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which is part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Switzerland. The Embassy is responsible for the overall coordination of development activities and cooperation in Bangladesh. It supports, coordinates and supervises the Swiss-funded development programs and projects implemented in Bangladesh by multilateral, Swiss and international as well as local aid organizations.

To complement its development team, the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladeshis looking for Bangladeshi candidates to fill the position of a

National Programme Officer, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Governance

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of WASH governance projects and ensure effective monitoring and steering
  • Conceptualise new projects and lead through the public tendering and internal approval processes
  • Contribute to the portfolio and overall strategic programme development
  • Establish, maintain and expand relations with a wide network of relevant stakeholders; particularly within the Government of Bangladesh
  • Contribute to the results monitoring and portfolio reporting
  • Monitor and analyse the WASH sector
  • Ensure the mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction, social inclusion, gender and governance within the portfolio

Requirements:

  • Post-graduate degree from a reputed Bangladeshi or foreign academic institution
  • Minimum of 7 years of development-related work experience in WASH
  • Previous experience in WASH governance
  • In-depth understanding of WASH in Bangladesh
  • Functional network among public and private sector WASH actors
  • Proven skills in managing and steering of implementation partners
  • Strong know-how in results monitoring and reporting
  • Experience with Disaster Risk Reduction is an asset
  • Good understanding of poverty, social inclusion, gender, good governance and conflict sensitive programme management
  • Excellent strategic, analytical and conceptual capacities
  • Strong communication and networking skills; full proficiency in English, team and independent work capability, gender sensitivity
  • Readiness to travel to rural regions within Bangladesh.
