New Position as Programme Officer for Private Sector Development

The Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka is seeking a candidate for the position as Programme Officer for its private sector development programme at the Section for Development Cooperation. The Embassy has a staff of more than thirty persons out of which ten work within the Section for Development Cooperation. The main task of the Programme Officer will be the responsibility for initiating, managing and following up Swedish funded projects and programmes related to private sector development (PSD). In addition, tasks also include developing the project portfolio, following trends and promoting cooperation with other relevant actors within the area of responsibility. The position has a probation period of six months.
 
Main job responsibilities

  • Managing projects and programmes related to PSD, especially within the areas of employment and skills development. This also includes financial management and follow-up of results.
  • Monitoring, analyzing and documentation of trends and method development related to the area of responsibility.
  • Contributing to the Embassy activities related to improving industrial relations in Bangladesh.
  • Establishing and maintaining close cooperation with development partners such as government authorities and institutions, donors, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and the private sector.
  • Liaising with Sida in Stockholm and other PSD-, employment and skills development staff at Swedish Embassies all over the world.
  • Contributing to the Embassy dialogue and communication work linked to the area of responsibility.
  • Participating in relevant donor coordination working groups, task forces and consortium meetings within the area of responsibility. 
  • Collaborating with the Commercial and Political Section at the Embassy with the promotion and development of business opportunities in Bangladesh for Swedish companies.
  • Contributing with descriptive and analytical inputs to reports, work plans, guidelines, strategies, etc. prepared by the Embassy.

Professional and personal qualification

  • At least Master’s degree in economics, political science or social studies.
  • A minimum of five years´ experience of working with development cooperation.
  • A minimum of three years´ experience of working with private sector development, especially within the areas of employment and skills development.
  • At least two years’ experience of working as development cooperation programme manager.
  • Documented experience of working with women’s economic empowerment.
  • Experience of industrial relations, private sector collaboration in development cooperation and/or development financing as well as an academic background in gender studies will be considered as an advantage, but no precondition.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Bengali.
  • Oriented towards efficiency, problem solving and being a good team player.
  • Excellent command in MS Excel and other MS Office Programmes.
  • Excellent communication and social skills.
  • Strong analytical and report writing competency and capacity.
  • Ability to initiate and implement activities independently, as well as a capacity to meet deadlines with a high level of quality and accuracy.
