Population Council,  an international nonprofit research organization is seeking application from the qualified persons for the following position for Ending Eclampsia project awarded through USAID:

Senior Program Officer

Job Description/Responsibility

  • Proposal and Protocol development: Develop new proposals; prepare IRB (Institutional Review Board) submissions under close supervision of the principal investigator/supervisor.
  • Strategic planning: Manage the project independently under guidance of the principal investigator/supervisor. Actively contribute in strategic planning of program, activities and monitoring and evaluation. Prepare annual timeline, work plan and annual progress reports for donor submission.
  • Training and program management: Plan, organize and train the service provider, partners, and research staff including developing the training manuals. Independently mange the program activities.
  • Research design and data analysis: Plan and design research activities and data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative research. Prepare data collection instruments and supervise overall research and program activities.
  • Technical assistance and capacity building: Provide technical assistance in implementing, monitoring and evaluating project activities. Take lead in data analysis and report writing.  Provide, in consultation with supervisor, administrative and technical support to partner agencies. Provide training on research design, ethical issues, and data collection instruments to program personnel.
  • Coordination and networking: Closely work and communicate with MOHFW, colleagues from partner and donor organizations in coordinating project activities. Participate in and represent the Council in inter-agency networks.
  • Supervision and monitoring: Mentor one or more project staff. Manage overall project activities in consultation with principal investigator/supervisor. Develop monitoring and evaluation instruments. Undertake routine monitoring visits to the field to ensure quality assurance in the implementation of project activities.
  • Report writing and publication: Take lead, in consultation with principal investigator/ supervisor, in preparing periodic and final reports and policy briefs pertaining to the project. Author and co-author scientific papers for conference and peer-reviewed journals under supervision of senior staff.
  • Communication and dissemination of research findings: Take lead in organizing dissemination meetings of related projects. Prepare oral presentations for professional meetings and make oral presentations at international/national conferences.
  • Financial Management: Assist in preparing budget for the related projects. Provides input to program planning and budget.
  • Any other job assigned by the supervisor.

Job Nature: Contractual

Educational & Other Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from a recognized university. Master in Public Health (MPH) from a recognized university/institution will be given preference
  • At least 9 years of proven relevant work experience in research (Year of experience will be relaxed for outstanding candidate based on strong academic background, publication, and relevant experience in reputed organizations)
  • Field experience in population and reproductive health research are essential and training capacity will be an added advantage
  • Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in english
  • Willingness to travel to rural field sites and project areas frequently
  • Able to work in teams/managing staff, partner and donor relationships
  • Suitable female candidate will be given preference

Experience Requirements: 9 years in similar responsibilities

Additional Job Requirements

  • Experience in working at international NGOs will be an added advantage
  • Experience may be relaxed for extra-ordinary young candidate
  • Multi-tasking working attitude, team-player and creative thinker

Salary Range : Depending on qualification and experience attractive packages will be offered
