Job description for a Youth and Gender Coordinator (Sylhet, Chattagram or Mymensing)

Summary: The Gender Coordinator under the supervision of the AY Specialist will contribute technically in implementing gender activities and will support the project its objectives. The Gender Coordinator will also support technical leadership to ensure gender integration. Provides support to technical leadership to integrate gender and youth across all project components. Supports AY Specialist and Youth and Gender Advisor to coordinate youth and gender activities and ensure project deliverables meet the needs of youth, women/girls and men/boys.

  • The position is assigned to Pathfinder’s Accelerating Universal Access to Family Planning (AUAFP) project in Bangladesh. AUAFP is a five year multi-million dollar project funded by USAID. The project aims to strengthen and expand access to quality family planning services through a collaborative health system capacity building partnership with the government of Bangladesh, specifically through a flexible implementation model led in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, including the National Institute of Population Research and Training, the Directorate General of Family Planning, and the Directorate General of Health Services.

Key Job Outcomes:

  • Strategic Leadership: Supports and contributes to strategic technical leadership to project on the implementation of high quality AYSRH and gender interventions. Supports development of strategies and plans for integration of gender and comprehensive adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health to address the unmet FP needs. Supports leadership to integrate gender transformative initiatives into the project, including conducting project gender analysis and developing gender implementation plans. Provides support to gender-centered programming aimed at building the capacity of stakeholders.
  • Programming Design and Implementation: Provide support in the design, development and implementation of innovative, effective, country appropriate youth and gender programming.
  • Build capacity: Support development and scale up of efforts to achieve youth friendly and gender equitable community-level service provision and comprehensive services. Ensure quality of care for all gender-related services through ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
  • Technical Assistance: Supports AY Specialist in design of strategies for scaling up successful models and identifying new ways to help improve services and information for young people.
  • Quality Assurance: Provides support to project team to ensure that best practices for youth and gender services and service integration are well documented, evaluated and poised for scale up.
  • Brand Ambassador: Represents project to external organizations as assigned.
  • Country Specific Public Health System: Advanced knowledge of the Bangladesh health system.
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Foundational knowledge of family planning and reproductive health principles, practices and services of programs, including program strategies and indicators, and the latest professional developments. Foundational skills in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating development and intervention activities, preferably with USAID, WHO, or other donor organizations working in the health sector.
  • Program Operations and Development: Foundational skills in implementing similar programs.
  • Program and Project Planning and Management: Foundational skills in program and project management and planning to fulfill performance objectives, including the timely implementation and reporting of donor-funded program activities.
  • Change Leadership: Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in managing change across a broad group of stakeholders in an inclusive manner.
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to make presentations on results and products to small and large groups. 
  • Community Relations: Foundational skills in facilitating work relationships between partners, government officials, and communities
  • Minimally Required Education, Training and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, adolescent/youth services, gender, social science or related discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience working in development, preferably implementing programs in Bangladesh seeking to empower youth and women 
  • Prefer: Experience with USAID-funded projects
