Organization: Market Development Forum (MDF) Bangladesh

Overview of MDF

Market Development Forum (MDF) is the knowledge sharing network of market development practitioners in Bangladesh. Overtime, the importance of such a platform for knowledge dissemination and coordination has been established among the practitioners.  This neutral platform creates opportunities for different organizations to work together by sharing knowledge and experience around different market development approaches, capture feedback of practitioners and communicating to donors and relevant stakeholders, promote national level discussions and improve overall understanding of how to influence market systems.  Hence, MDF capitalize on members’ initiative to knowledge sharing.

Vision: MDF envision promotion of strong knowledge sharing practice, among program implementers, in terms of developing, implementing and delivering economic development projects in improving inclusive growth in a sustainable manner with scalable strategy.

Objective: MDF endeavor for sustainable solution to pro-poor market development by creating linkages and enhancing knowledge management. The aim is to -

  • Create more inclusive platform of development practitioners from international and local NGOs, projects, donors and private sector.
  • Promote quality knowledge management and networking
  • Enhance MDF portfolio

Functions of Programme Coordinator

A. Strategic

  • Implements the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
  • Planning, budgeting, and reporting: Prepares annual plans of operation, including budget; and annual reports, including financial reports.

B. Institutional

  • Enables the MDF Executive Committee to fulfill its governance function.

C. Operational

  • Conduct Meetings: Organizes meetings of the executive committee members, annual general meeting and any other extraordinary general meetings as and when required. Maintains and circulates meeting minutes.
  • Coordination: Coordinates various activities undertaken by the member organizations under the banner of the forum. Supports operations and administration of executive committee and interfaces between the members.
  • Communication: Acts as focal point of the forum in maintaining both internal and external communications with members and external audiences. Prepares and publishes activity reports, business plans and other knowledge management and coordination products created, collated or facilitated by the forum.  Maintains the MDF website and keeps it updated.
  • Public Relations: Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
  • Program, Product and Service Delivery: Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services of the forum.
  • Human Resources: Engages and supervises interns, volunteers and other staff as per the operational plan including performing annual performance evaluation of the team.

D. Financial, administrative

  • Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management: Recommends yearly budget for approval of the executive committee and prudently manages organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to applicable laws and regulations. Supervises the accountant who maintains books of accounts, transaction records and supporting documents of cash and bank transactions. Ensures and oversees yearly audit of accounts and presents financial statements in annual general meetings. Ensures accurate and complete recordkeeping of MDF affairs.

E. Other

  • Fundraising: Oversees fundraising planning and implementation, including collection of yearly membership fees, identifying resource requirements, exploring funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation
  • Fulfills any other business assigned by the executive committee and/or the chair of the forum.

Deliverables

  • Prepare and finalize the business plan with EC members and arrange a member meeting to validate the business plan.
  • Organize the Annual General Meeting and make annual operational and financial reports readily available before the event.
  • Communicate with members and relevant stakeholders regularly and promote the learning initiative of MDF wherever suitable. Also, promote the core and non-core activities of MDF.
  • Enhance the membership base of MDF by retaining existing members and having new members.
  • Coordinate MDF initiated activities like Market Café, Market Jatra and Annual Conference / MDF Day. Also, support members to coordinate regular activities.
  • Construct an annual work plan for the Secretariat.
  • Draft and finalize the mapping documents with EC members. Then circulate the document among general members to map their work.
  • Explore opportunities to expand the services offered by MDF and share valuable MDF weekly feed with members.
  • Call for EC meetings once in two months and update the EC members about the progress of planned activities. Also, share with EC Members over email about any pressing issues and regular update. Circulate the EC meeting minutes among the EC members, and simultaneously document them for future reference.
  • Maintain and update the MDF website and social network.
  • Coordinate with the current Programme Coordinator in all the activities.

  • Good understanding of development issues with strong focus on value chain, market development, working with small and marginal farmers.
  • Policies and procedures related with private sector engagement and pro-poor market development
  • Strong research skills.
  • Moderate meetings and take minutes.
  • Work proactively to ensure timely deliverables and maintain good liaison with members.
