Senior Gender Officer


No. of Vacancy: 1 (One), Ukhiya,Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, Job Type: Fixed Term, until March 31, 2019

Salary & Benefits: BDT. 1,056,451 gross per annum (13 months) plus 10% market supplement with other benefits e.g. medical for spouse and children, contributory Provident fund, gratuity, leave & Insurance etc.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a dynamic person to support Provide technical support to the WASH, EFSVL and protection teams on how to mainstream gender and ensure compliance to Oxfam’s Gender in Emergency Minimum standards; Support capacity building for staff of other team members, community groups, volunteers and field facilitators on how to practically integrate gender in emergencies; Maintain relationships with partners to ensure gender is integrated in wider initiatives, and to promote the partners’ participation in coordination systems at the local level; Ensure gender sensitization and build the capacity of women within the community to facilitate their participation and leadership role in WASH and EFSVL interventions, including the creation of women’s groups/man groups; Support the implementation of gender projects/activities and contribute to operationalization of the gender objectives of the response Line of management Gender Associate in planning, monitoring and project implementation; Represent Oxfam in relevant coordination structures, Prepare periodical reports and share with Matrix Manager

The post holder reports to the Area Manager, Matrix Manager – Gender Coordinator

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:

Essential

  • Degree with equivalent work experience from a recognized University/college in Women & Gender Studies, Development Studies, any other Social Science areas, Mass Media & Communications and Humanitarian Assistance or any other related area that can bring added value to the job;
  • At least 5 years’ relevant field experience of preferably in an international NGO/operational UN agency/equivalent;
  • Able to conduct field assessments, including survey and focus group discussions to support assessments;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and standards of gender in emergencies;
  • Ability to work with, support and influence others;
  • Initiative and motivation to work independently and develop solutions to problems;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a demanding and fast-moving environment manage workflows, balance competing priorities and work effectively in a diverse and busy team;
  • Good communication skills in Bengali and Chittagong;

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience working on gender and protection issues in humanitarian contexts;
  • Good understanding of gender issues in WASH, EFSVL, protection and GBV prevention and response;
  • Proven analytical and strategy development skills. Understanding of monitoring processes, learning, adaptation and evaluation;
  • Proven skills on drafting and preparing reports.
