Senior Gender Officer


Location: Cox’s Bazar (Ukhiya), Bangladesh, Job Type: Fixed Term (up to Sep 30, 2018)
[Only Bangladeshi nationals are eligible to apply]

Salary & Benefits: BDT. 1,056,451 per annum (13 months) gross with other benefits e.g. medical for spouse and children, contributory Provident fund, gratuity, leave & Insurance etc.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a dynamic team player who will support the Gender Team Leader in the Ukhia area of Oxfam’s programme in Cox’s Bazar. The post holder will work closely with Oxfam’s WASH, Food Security and Protection teams in Ukhia to ensure an integrated gender programme delivery so that the protection of rights and needs of women and girls and men and boys are met in the response. The Senior Gender Officer will also work closely with the rest of the Cox’s Bazar programme, including partners and within the Gender Team in supporting all other gender activities

The post holder reports to Area Manager, Ukhiya

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:

Essential

  • Degree with equivalent work experience from a recognized University/college in Humanitarian Assistance, Gender or any other related area that can bring added value to the job;
  • Relevant field experience of 3-5 years preferably in an international NGO/operational UN agency/equivalent;
  • Able to conduct field assessments, including survey and focus group discussions to support assessments;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles and standards of gender in emergencies;
  • Ability to work with, support and influence others;
  • Initiative and motivation to work independently and develop solutions to problems;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a demanding and fast-moving environment manage workflows, balance competing priorities and work effectively in a diverse and busy team;
  • Good communication skills in Bengali and Local language of Chittagong;

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience working on gender and protection issues in humanitarian contexts;
  • Good understanding of gender issues in WASH, EFSL, protection and GBV prevention and response;
  • Proven analytical and strategy development skills. Understanding of monitoring processes, learning, adaptation and evaluation;
  • Proven skills on drafting and preparing reports.
