The Nutrient Management for Diversified Cropping in Bangladesh (NUMAN) Project aims to increase the profitability and sustainability of intensive and emerging cropping systems in Bangladesh through improved nutrient management. The NUMAN Project is led by Murdoch University - Australia with the partnership of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Soil Resource Development Institute, Khulna University, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Conservation Agriculture Service Providers Association, Bangladesh Fertilizer Association, and the International Plant Nutrition Institute.

Aims of the position

The Officer - Gender (OG) position aims at supporting integration of a gender perspective into project work to ensure that gender is mainstreamed and strengthened. The position supports the project to develop appropriate advocacy strategies to ensure the development and delivery of strategic and impactful gender advocacy

Working area

Based in Conservation Agriculture Service Providers' Association (CASPA) Head Office, Durgapur, Rajshahi.

Qualification

  1. At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender & Development studies, Sociology, Rural Development, Development studies, or related studies. A Master’s Degree in related studies will be an added advantage.
  2. At least 4 year’s proven and progressive experience working on gender and women’s empowerment issues and advocacy.
  3. Ability to build the capacity of staff and partners to deliver advocacy work.
  4. Good networking and alliance building skills.
  5. Knowledge of effective resource mobilization skills.
  6. Knowledge of MS Access, SPSS or similar database management/statistical software package will be an advantage;
  7. Fluency in English and Bengali.
  8. Excellent communicator, orally and in writing.
  9. Innovative, self-driven and team player.

Major responsibilities:

  1. Provide guidance and advice to the program’s management team on technical issues of gender advocacy mainstreaming in projects.
  2. Network and maintain dialogue with relevant stakeholders e.g. government institutions and national and international development organizations to ensure collaboration, synergy and sharing of experiences on gender issues.
  3. Lead assessment and research activities at the community level to gather information and analysis on gender advocacy issues.
  4. Track progress and provide data on gender advocacy issues.
  5. Develop a plan to create awareness among staff and partner communities on how to lead the documentation and sharing of lessons from best practice in gender programming and advocacy.
  6. Lead training workshops for relevant stakeholders, staff and key actors on gender advocacy and related topics;
  7. Support preparation and dissemination of information related to gender issues that are relevant to the women enterprises project.
  8. Support the monitoring, evaluation and reporting on gender mainstreaming by ensuring the collection of relevant baseline information and formulation of gender-sensitive indicators.
  9. Identify training needs and organize trainings in gender mainstreaming for farming community.

  1. Willing to live in project working areas.
  2. Having computer operation knowledge, especially MSWord, Excel and Email.
  3. Having English and Bengali typing skills.
  4. Ability to work under extreme pressure and meeting deadlines.
  5. Willing to travel to other project locations (as and when necessary).
  6. Willing to drive motorcycle and having valid motorcycle driving license.

Duration

3.5 years (or depending on the project period)

Salary packages

1. Gross monthly salary Tk. 40,000 - 45,000/-
2. Other benefits - medical allowance, insurance, earned leave, etc. as per office policy.
