Name of the Position: Hygiene Promoter

The purpose of the assignment will be to support the host communities living in Teknaf and Ukhia upazila and facilitating the access to improved sanitation facilities, personal hygiene and hand washing facilities for at least 50,000 vulnerable people living in geographic area nearer to makeshift camps and the affected host communities by undocumented population entered from Myanmar.

It is expected that the proposed interventions in the selected host communities would undoubtedly ensure bringing sustained behavioral change and reduction of health risks associated with water and sanitation related diseases. Through the project, during the service commencement, NGO Forum expects to reach extreme vulnerable groups, provide vulnerable beneficiaries who will receive direct assistance for WASH needs and coordinate with and complement the existing WATSAN/WASH programmes of the Government of Bangladesh, DPHE, UPs, BDRCS, UN agencies, international NGOs and local/national NGOs working, LGIs and upazila administration in Cox’s Bazar by addressing identified gaps and scaling up of services.

Purpose of this Position:

General hygiene is a vital element in enhancing the quality of health care services delivered to a community. A hygiene promoter provides a range of simple but effective services to enhance body hygiene, especially for young children and the aged, who are most at risk of contracting communicable diseases such as flu, typhoid, and dysentery, according to the UNHCR project and NGO Forum Hygiene operational manual ac These hygiene services are mostly needed in developing countries where barriers to basic WatSan care are high or in areas prone to frequent hygiene risk area.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Organize and conduct and follow-up promotional activities.                                                    
• Assist the Project Officer and Project Engineer in preparing and preserving reports and necessary information.        
• Assist in conducting feasibility study of hardware support, such as, site visit of proposed WASH options.                                                                                     
• Conduct hygiene promotion and capacity building sessions.                                                   
• Assist project team in organizing and conducting different types of discussion forums, workshops, seminars, symposiums, training courses etc. at local level.                                  
• Prepare monthly plan for project promotional different activities like meetings, hygiene sessions, WatSan programme etc. and follow-up of those targeted activities.                                             
• Prepare periodical report on monitoring and promotional activities & events.      
• Plan, design and manage the implementation of hygiene promotion measures to address priority public health risks according to the agreed plan, and complimentary to physical sanitation measures, to meet the needs in excreta disposal, wastewater.
• Mobilize communities, where appropriate, to participate fully in this programme.
• Ensure that hygiene promotion activities are in line with SPHERE standards, Federation WatSan and Health & Care policies and national policies.
• Perform any other related duties or responsibilities that may be assigned by the project team.

Job Nature: Full-time (Contractual Basis)

Educational Requirements: Graduate/ Bachelor Degree.

• Age at most 34 year(s)
• Should have knowledge on WatSan, Public Health, Community mobilization, PRA tools and techniques.
• Experience in community mobilization and WaSH related activities implementation at field level.
• Positive attitude as development activities, team spirit and accommodative within team and community level.
• Basic orientation on WaSH for refugee camp.
• WaSH experiences on refugee context.
• Good communication skill.
• Computer operating knowledge
• Working knowledge with Govt. officials
